Re: Which course

Just an update dd went eventually for YMT and got a part in one of their productions. She also tried out for a couple of MT colleges. She was rejected for both. Both rejections left everyone stunned she didn't get in. However out of the blue I got an offer from one of the colleges she was rejected f...

Re: Which course

She is 16, already and as I had said the shows that NYMT were doing this year I didn't think matched her look not just her height. Given family circumstances at the moment I suggested to her that she might think about not actually going to college this year and just go out to find work. I thought sh...

Re: Which course

Sorry meant to say it was not only her height that she is worried about.

Re: Which course

I don't think it is even her height that she is worried about but the fact she knows she can sing and dance and act, I know she can sing and dance and act, her teachers know she can sing and dance and act but she ends up in an audition with someone who can't and they get through and she doesn't and ...

Re: Which course

Just an update. I put her in for the audition for NYMT. Turning into the biggest mistake I could have done. Having had a quick look at the shows I really didn't quite know which show she would be put forward for as she really didn't match look wise or height wise any of the productions. One she woul...

Re: Which course

Any paid work would be out of the window. I don't think I have seen anybody over 5ft in any childs role whether West End or tv or film. She has when she was much smaller done some nice parts, but apart from one with an opera company 3 years ago when she had just nudged past 5ft she hasn't had anythi...

Re: Which course

She has done panto at our local theatre a couple of years running where fortunately there is another girl of similar height so they share the costume, they are the tallest in the show, including adult cast. Any sort of paid work because of her age and height has been none existent. I feel terrible f...

Re: Which course

There was a cruise ship advert when I was scanning through initially but that was for someone who was under 5ft 3" and dd would not get that sort of thing because she wouldn't get thru the dance part of the audition. I know she loves doing shows and she isn't a bad dancer but she is not a great...

Re: Which course

Filled out the form to register her. Out of the openings available for the skill set she would have on leaving a 3 year musical theatre course there was only 1 opening that paid anything and that was more drama than musical theatre. The rest paid nothing.

Re: Which course

Just had a quick look at the adverts and if you discount the ones that you have to pay them and christmas elves (cannot see dd as a tiny elf myself) the first one you come across says height 5ft4-5ft5. Also you have to discount the ones that want dancers and what you are left with is very little to ...

Re: Which course

I might be totally wrong in my thinking but I personally think for someone of my dds height 6ft 2" in heels and the fact her lesser strength is dance, a 3 year musical theatre course is going to be a waste of 3 years. I am not discounting the possibilities of it might lead on to something but w...

Re: Which course

She is going in to year 11, aged 15. I should add the one thing I have noticed about musical theatre is the girls are quite short. Dd is quite tall. The only work she is doing at the moment is voice overs as she is too tall for children's roles. Her last audition for an acting role, she was head and...

Which course

Dd and I have been looking around at different colleges, some doing drama courses, some music and some musical theatre. In an audition Dd would get down to the final few if it involved singing or drama but dance is not her strong point, she enjoys dance and is reasonable at it, but she is aware ther...

Re: Brit school

Went to the Brit Schools open evening last Wednesday with a friend and her daughter who was interested in either the Dance or Musical Theatre course. Has anyone any views or experience on these courses or The Brit School in general.
