Re: GCSE Drama Student Work Experience?

Great question. I have thought about this too and didn't know you needed to be 16 to work in the theatre (thanks Irish Dancer). Apart from the theatre, I'm not sure what else is relevant - perhaps a local radio station?

Re: Odd question about 16's and under in theatres

My DS was the only child in an Amdram show last year and after me staying at lots of rehearsals (because the only licensed chaperone wasn't able to stay at every one), the director told me that actually a chaperone is only needed for performances and not rehearsals. If this is true, then maybe it's ...

Re: School permission - How long does it take?

Thanks for the advice people. I am surprised how long it took for our school to make a decision, especially considering how quickly you all seem to get a response. However, I rang this morning and was told that the secretary was just typing up a reply. I now have an email copy of this in which permi...

School permission - How long does it take?

Hi. I am just wondering how long your schools normally take to respond when you request time off for performing? At Primary School, I would email the head and she'd reply within minutes with her congratulations and permission. She was great! Now DS is at Secondary School, it seems different. I have ...

I believe Ann has a registration day coming up at the start of Feb so you should probably get in touch soon.

Re: Modelling/Extra work/Student films?

Hi Katymac. I will tell you a bit about our experience and hope it helps: Ds joined a 'background artists' (extras) agency 2.5 years ago. In that time we've spent around £400 on fees, photos and doctors notes. Then you can add on petrol to registration days and jobs on top of that. In that time Ds h...

Re: Meeting with Head re Time Off

Hope things went OK at your meeting Jenny. Any more news?

We are in limbo at the moment, waiting to hear back from the school so I'd love to hear how it went.

Thanks for the link TalyaB. I will read that now.

Re: Days off School

Well done to your ds TwirlyMum. My ds has had 4 days off for films this year and every now and then we get sent the standard letter stating a child can have up to ten days authorised absence but it's by no means a right. I do t know if they use this as a hard and fast limit and I can't see us testin...

Re: Multiple Agents

It is possible to have two agents if they represent children for background work. I think if you are on Spotlight then you should only have one agent because a cd will see you on there and they need to know who to contact. Also, as the op said most agents insist on this anyway.

Re: Amateur Dramatics

Hi. Have you tried this website? I am always checking for local audition. They are few and far between where I live but there are always loads in London.

Wow! That is quite depressing. Almost makes you wonder what it's all about.

Re: When to call it a day...?

I agree with the OPs about amateur and open auditions. My Ds has loved the acting he's done with amateur groups. Also, have you considered background work? My Ds is with an agent that specialises in employing children for featured or extra roles. Of course they won't have as much focus on screen but...

Re: Help!

Hi. Where did you find out about the 40 day allowance? It would probably depend on your child's performance in school too wouldn't it? Our (primary) school have been supportive so far, but Ds hasn't done much. I hope the secondary school are going to be as good. :?

Re: Time off school refused?

There is a lot of useful information on this post - I'm going to "favourite" it because I might just need it. My DS had 4 days authorised in December for panto with no complaints at all. He's now got a job which will take a single day later this week. The head replied to my email request w...

Re: is your DC affected by M25 requirement for London roles?

I know people who've had West End roles and live way outside the M25. They were exhausted but still go for auditions and would do it all over again (not sure their parents would be quite so keen). Jo Hawes website states a limit of 45 miles, which does still include us, but I'm not sure it would be ...
