Re: Aj Management

DS was with A & J as a younger child and they were fab! He had loads of castings and some great jobs. I initially phoned them and was asked to send some photos and details of anything DS had already done, which we did. We then received a date for an audition, for which he had to prepare a monolo...

Re: Black Eye before TV commercial. Aaaagggh HELP!!!

With regards to the cuts/grazing - this can easily be covered up. My DS fell of a bike whilst filming once and grazed the whole of one side of his face! The make-up girl was brilliant and you would never have known!

Good luck - I'm sure your DS will be fine by Friday :)

Re: Just interested - general hit rate from submissions/cast

Nextinline - that is so true! The ones that seemed to go really well for DS with lots of positive feedback hardly ever seemed to lead to anything, whereas the ones where he was just in and out without so much as a batted eyelid quite often materialised into a part! In the end I gave up trying to sec...

Re: Just interested - general hit rate from submissions/cast

I remember once counting that we had been up to London for 32 castings without booking any jobs, and was just beginning to doubt our sanity when my DS suddenly had a stream of jobs, including a lead WE role, 3 TV featured roles, a high-profile TV ident (heavily featured), lead roles in numerous stud...

Re: School

When we were looking at secondary schools for DS, we asked about their policies surrounding time off for auditions etc and factored their reactions in when we finally chose a school. The one we chose proved to be extremely supportive and we never had any problem getting time off, even at very short ...

Re: Dancer but not so much a singer!

My lovely niece is going through this exact same dilemma at the moment. She has just turned 17 and has suddenly decided, having danced since she was 3, that she wants to pursue performing arts as a career. She, too, has never sung, says she can't sing, and refuses to sing in front of anyone. She say...

Re: Licence to perform

My DS was only ever asked when he had been offered a job - it was part of the licensing process. We were very lucky that our GP would do this for us without charge. Mind you, he was a professional actor before he became a GP, so was on our side from day one! We would go and see him and he would just...

Re: Please show your support to one little very brave girl

Have been following this amazing little girl and her equally amazing family since the post on here 3 years ago.

I was so sad to read that she had passed away. Such a brave and inspirational little girl, as are her family.

My heart goes out to them all.

Re: permission refused. is head mistress being unreasonable?

This is such a sad story, but good for you for pulling your DD......exactly what I would have done in the circumstances. When my DS was at Primary School he had loads of time (licensed) off for stage roles, filming etc, and his Head was fully supportive. In fact, he actually said to me "He will...

Re: Hard work or talent?

This is a really interesting debate. I think success in any field is a combination of aptitude (eg: having the right body attributes to become a prima ballerina) and talent in whatever field is required (ie: it's not really much good aspiring to become an opera singer if you are tone deaf and can't ...

Re: Not sure exams are legitimate?

Have been following this thread with interest. Am so glad you've finally made the decision to make a fresh start and that your DD is happy with the change. It can only be onwards and upwards from here. If it's any comfort, we did a similar thing with DS and his music, and have never looked back. It'...

Re: Broadway recommendations...?

Wow, how exciting! :D

My niece recently went to NYC on a school trip and they saw Annie on Broadway. She said it was fantastic, but I have no idea of ticket prices or availability.

Please let us know what you end up seeing.

Re: CBBC Series- Hank Zipzer

emlochscams.........so glad your DS got the commercial, and good for him for even agreeing to go to the casting for Hank Zipzer in the first place! Cat Kat - that is such a great story, and kind of reminds me of when DH and I very nearly ended up auditioning for the ensemble of Phantom of the Opera ...
