Re: NYT Audition Process

I'm sure a musical would be fine, as long as it's still spoken script

But don't pick anything to stylised - remember naturalistic is what they're looking for. They want to see them playing a realistic age-appropriate character.

Re: NYT Audition Process

1) They're looking for natural, age-appropriate monologues - not in any other accent than your own ideally. 2) No props, no scenes from films, no personally written pieces. 3) Enjoy the workshop and don't try to outshine others as they're definitely looking for team players. Good luck, but also bear...

Re: Song choice

My DD did "Someone's watching over me" from Raise your voice (sung by Hilary Duff in the movie) - it IS officially Disney I would think, but one of the more teen-based films.

Re: LAMDA exams

Wow Steve, you REALLY don't like LAMDA exams, do you?! My DD used the same "derivative, imitative piece" for both her exam, a festival and (at just 14) her audition for the National Youth Theatre. All 3 loved it, so unless there's something intrinsically different with what they were all l...

Re: LAMDA exams

I think the discrepancy some people are talking about here is more to do with the teachers than with the exam system itself. I've read the very comprehensive marking scheme for the various grades, and LAMDA are certainly looking for truth in acting, believability in performance and well-developed ch...

Re: Which to Choose

It's going to be more expensive in this particular case, as there's no scholarship available at Cambridge!

Re: Which to Choose

'm not sure that a bursary at Durham would make up for the earning power of a Cambridge degree if you did something other than drama after uni it might if it was the avenue into paying for the drama post-grad course - after all, life isn't just earning potential, especially for those mad on the art...

Re: Which to Choose

Nobody seems to have yet mentioned the obvious, which is that if Durham are offering you a scholarship...which means MONEY...or should I say less student debt, this has to be a HUGE incentive. OK it's not Cambridge, and the drama isn't going to be "Footlights", but if you want to do a post...

Re: NYT Auditions

They only have access to a microwave for cooking (because there are under 16s, the cookers themselves are disconnected for health and safety) so it was lots of ready-meals from M&S and dried "pasta and sauce" type packets. But they are generally within easy access of either shops or fa...

Re: NYT Auditions

My DD was 14 1/2 when she went on the course last year - and she had a blast but it was a bit of a baptism of fire for us (as she's our youngest). They live in halls of residence, cook for themselves and are expected to get themselves to and from the workshop venue, which was a 20 minute public tran...

My DD got in last year and did the new members course. She had an incredible time and can't wait to do it all again next year. PM me if you have any questions..

Re: Secondary School choices

the junior drama group (years 7 and 8) also put on an evening of performance of what they've been doing in junior drama extra curricular classes, and there is a dance evening which is well attended (compulsory for years 7 and 8 but above that, they can do solos - very dull if you don't like dance, a...

This inclusive thing in silly - they wouldn't take the same approach for a football match I bet!

Re: Secondary School choices

IOS - if it's K's school, they do GCSE drama as an extra-curricular activity - K's doing it at the moment The drama provision isn't great, to be honest - there used to be 3 plays per year (years 7/8, 9/10 and 11-13) plus a "whole school play" but since the lovely Mr Cash left, things have ...

Re: Head shots

Philip Wade is excellent, and for a fixed fee, you get a CD with about 80 shots on and 3 separate looks, which you are free to use. Here's his website:

I'm not on commission (honest!) but we used him last year and will definitely be going back
