Re: What do I do with DD?
Goodness - so you apply to the school, do an audition, if you get in you apply for funding That's a lot of applying I imagine getting in & not getting funding is awful for the children Yes and no. My DD was initially really upset at getting offered a non-funded place but over time has realised ...

Re: What do I do with DD?
Are universities looking at how many GCSEs a child has? Or are they looking at the types of subjects taken and the marks gained - i.e. quality vs quantity? I ask because I know that Russell Group unis would rather candidates had good marks in three "approved" A level subjects than 4 or 5 l...

Re: Vocational school auditions - how are they going?
I sympathise elfiesmum, my DD was in the same situation a couple of years ago when she was offered a place on Tring's Theatre Arts course but with no funding. We would literally have had to have sold our house to fund the place so had to turn it down. DD is now at an outstanding academic school and ...

Re: UK Grishko stockists??
Well, the Freed Chacott split sole is not as low fronted as the Freed Aspire full soles, BUT it is pretty and looks much better on my DD's long slender foot than her Grishkos. Hopefully they will be comfy to dance in! But also only around the 12 pounds mark AND the elastics are pre sewn at both ends...

Re: First Pointe shoes
Well you won't need to put them away until ballet starts as they will need breaking in, which can be done over the holidays. :) BUT Anjuli is right about not going up en pointe in them, I had to threaten my DD not to do so on pain of death! Once the teacher has approved them, then you can sew the ri...

Re: UK Grishko stockists??
We are up in London tomorrow so I think we will pop into Freed and ask there, if only on the basis that DD's satin full soles (bought from Freed for her recent Inter Foundation exam) are very pretty on her feet and I wondered if their new Freed Chacott split sole is similarly low in front. Will keep...

Re: UK Grishko stockists??
I've never had trouble with Planet Dance but it is always worth phoning them first to check whether what you're after is in stock. We've bought Grishko soft shoes from the Dancia store on Drury Lane and have ordered from them online once with no problem. Their range online is much smaller than in st...

Just re-reading the OP - am I right in thinking Gamba's London shop is also closed now?

Re: First Pointe shoes
You are more than welcome. Porselli don't have a London shop any more as they are mail order only. There is a Sansha shop on Drury Lane but when we bought shoes in there once the staff didn't do any fitting at all so I had to do it! Luckily they were only split soles. Have never tried Gamba ...

Re: First Pointe shoes
Hi, It does very much depend on the fitter as well as the variety of makes and styles available. For DD's first pair we went to Dancia on Drury Lane and they were fine. However, the next two fitters there didn't take into account that DD's feet had changed having done pointe work for six or seven mo...
