Re: Dance competitions

My dd has been dancing in festivals since age 4. She was never nervous, that's coming more now (she's 11). Tell her to smile, enjoy and keep dancing. Are there older dancers (and their families) who are experienced at going to festivals? They'll help you through it, it's a weird world that has becom...

Re: Moving on to pointe

My dd had her first lesson on pointe yesterday! So I am no expert but qualify for done that! She is 11 and has passed G5. Five girls have started pointe work together, they are between 11 and 13. Apparently dd has quite strong feet so her shoes have quite a hard shank which is apparently not that co...

Contemporary CAT Birmingham

Does anyone have any experience of the contemporary CAT scheme in Birmingham? My dd is 11 (Y6) and interested in applying, it would be great to hear some experiences. The website has lots of information and sounds great but a personal slant would be really helpful.
Thanks x

Re: How long between dance exams?

IDTA syllabus for lower grades has changed too. Dd was entered for her exam quite early to do the older syllabus before the change but some of the lower grades have moved around due to the syllabus change, so this may be a factor for your dd.

Re: How long between dance exams?

I reckon my dd does an exam roughly once a year. Her dance school do exams each term so there's plenty of opportunity for them to enter the exams when they're ready. She did G4 ballet and G3 theatre craft in December and we have just has the dates for her G3 tap exam in March (she's 10 but it's IDTA...

Re: Dance Floor for home

Dd is always a bit reluctant to run through her festival solos (for memory sake not technique). I've never been too concerned about nagging her to do so because there's not enough space to dance it properly and she then can't time it right. So I'm happy to take funnygirls advice on this ;) However g...

Re: Restrictions for unlicensed performers

I know nothing! but this has made me wonder about dd's dance show. Every July her dance school puts on a show which has 4 evening performances. The children aren't licenced, so presumably this fits with the 4 days rule that's been mentioned. However I'm wondering about the other performances dd has ...

Re: CLASSICAL TUTU WANTED.

There are a few on Ebay at the moment (search for classical ballet tutu) that say age 6-8. Sadly none for a tall skinny 9 year old which was what I was looking for!!

Re: Dance Exams

My dd does IDTA syllabus rather than RAD/ISTD but she's G4 ballet and theatrecraft and G3 tap at age 9. There are others in the class who are 2-3 years older, she's only just gone up to those grades.

Re: UK Dance competitions

Have a look at All England Dance festivals, dates and contact details are all here http://www.all-england-dance.org.uk/assets/pdf/DIRECTORY%20OF%20NOMINATED%20FESTIVALS.pdf . There is a charge to enter a qualifying heat of £3-5ish per solo or about £1million for the amount of dances dd enters! The r...
