Re: National youth theatre

It's a long time ago now - 22 years ago in fact, but I did NYT and loved it. You do lots of skill based workshops and devise a short piece of live theatre or maybe work on a scripted piece during the 2 or 3 week course which you then showcase to a small audience. After that when you are a fully fled...

Re: Audition speech

I replied on your other thread, but wanted to suggest Rosaline's speech from After Juliet by Sharman McDonald.

Re: speech for NYT

Just the one play? Any period? What do you mean by appropriate? When I did NYT many years back it was a Shakespeare and a contemporary for the audition. I did Louise's final speech from Road by Jim Cartwright. My friend did a speech from Miss Julie. For my Shakespeare I did Imogen's speech from Cymb...

Re: Agency etiquette

Thanks, that has cleared it up. They're just extra agencies really. No sole representation contracts signed.

Thanks again.

Re: how do I begin?

I would also add that often, the students who have a scathing attitude towards school based Drama and think they are above their peers, are in fact not as talented as they think they are and lack the discipline that school based Drama requires. I'm not saying this applies to the OP, but it is fairly...

Re: how do I begin?

How many Drama teachers do you know? You're making a sweeping and inaccurate generalisation and giving out terrible advice to a fifteen year old about her future path to a career as an actor. I know that most Drama teachers that I have met and worked with in the past twenty years have had plenty of ...

Re: how do I begin?

Wow, paulears - you have got it so wrong about GSCE and A level Drama. OP - I'd keep going as you are with Drama at school, apply for NYT and get experience performing on stage locally. Look on Starnow and Kids Casting Call Pro for screen work, eg student films. Even contact your local arts organisa...

Agency etiquette

Hello I hope someone can tell me what is the protocol here... Several years ago, my family (me, my husband and four kids) sort of accidentally ended up on a local casting agent's book. We didn't sign up or anything, it was just very casual - a friend put him in touch with him and he has used us 2-3 ...

Re: Monologues for teenage boys.

What is it for?

How about Alan Strang from Equus by Peter Shaffer?
Edmund's 'Thou nature art my goddess' speech from King Lear
DNA by Dennis Kelly (Richard's monologue)

Re: Think I'm trying too hard to be lazy (monologues)

Yes to DNA. My husband is working on this play with his students and says it's really good.

What about Rosaline from After Juliet by Sharman MacDonald?
