Re: Mental health in performing arts

My observation College can be tough, but not as tough as the real world. The world of audition is hard and relentless. The world of work ( if they are lucky enough to get some ) is even harder. Do the ground work with your DD/S first, develop resilience, coping strategies and the understanding of th...

Re: How to keep them positive after rejections ?

It’s a tough old industry for sure and whilst I hate To be a negative nelly each part of the process is harder and more emotionally challenging. In hindsight getting in to a decent college is the easy part. Getting through college is tough! Getting an agent after college is tough! Watching their hea...

Re: mountview advice needed

Hey, leotard and tights are good for dancing. If she is not an advanced dancer I would suggest not going in that group. Many dancers have been dancing since they can walk and will have all of their dance exams. Better to look stronger in the less advanced section than weak in the advanced in my opin...

Re: Performers College Degree Course

My DD has just finished 3 year Trinity Diploma at performers and is just going in to her first major professional contract. The training that they get is outstanding, and their faculty are all either currently working or have a good Pedigree In the industry. Hours are long and the students are pushe...

Re: Query on performing arts degree costs

[quote="performmum Thanks for that. :D It's so nice to get opinions of people with DCs going through training. I suppose my only concern about Performers is that if it's focus is more on dance than singing and acting, as some people have posted previously. Would you agree with that? Ideally, w...

Re: Query on performing arts degree costs

Thanks for posting that. :D My DD has her audition there in Jan and as we live abroad, just to know that if successful, she wouldn't have to fly back over is great. I just assumed that they all did funding auditions. Did you find it useful going to the Open Day? What was your impression of the plac...

Re: #time4change

I really like the approach that this college has taken to this important issue. It cannot be understated the importance of ensuring that a young persons mental health is loooked after in this high pressured environment. Training itself is tough, constantly comparing yourself to others and being crit...

Re: not an empty nest...but need ideas on how to manage.

I empathise entirely. I only have one & we are incredibly close. When she left last year I struggled so much, I felt like I had a hole in my chest. I missed her dreadfully & found it hard to concentrate on other stuff as I was constantly wondering how she was. Also my emotions were totally t...

Re: Housing benefit and Performers

Losing the plot - I think you have to be in college for at least 30 hours a week for 30 weeks to be council tax exempt. Might be worth phoning Thurrock housing dept to be sure. I don't think savings are taken in to account but you could either phone or e mail to check. Might be worth doing because t...
