Re: MTA college closing

Update on the MTA, happily they have raised enough money to allow the 2022 graduates to finish their year, and they are also now offering fully funded places for 10 students who wouldn’t be in a position to go to drama schools. I’m not sure of all the details but it all sounds very promising and ex...

Fully Funded places available

Hi all It's been a while since I've been here - hope that you're all well and all your DC are heading in the right direction (and you're not too stressed as they're heading there). As you might have heard we've been on quite a journey over the past few weeks, however the amazing take away from this ...

Re: What's on Stage article

Talk about late to a party to reply. . . but anyway, just to put the record straight on some points raised here. The MTA (The Musical Theatre Academy) discovered that it was on this list the same time as you all did. So no money was exchanged to get us placed on there. However we are the only colleg...

Re: Seeds of doubt now

Hi I think that your friend is really misinformed. Firstly EDA states very clearly that they have a core group of staff plus visiting tutors. We're the only 'flit in and flit out' place, to quote your friend, and even then, they couldn't be more wrong! Secondly your DS is training to go into a vocat...

Re: BA / Foundation MT courses Sept 18

Thanks. That's good to know. Having read the website it sounds like it may actually suit him better than triple threat, but think he may have his heart set on triple threat! I've not come across anyone who's done an actor musician course though and wondered what it was actually like. I can't tell y...

Re: Should you say you have an offer at interviews?

What our graduates are doing is paying to train for that 'between jobs' career with the earnings from their performing jobs. So the onus is on them to fund that second career not the parent. It is possible to have a life long career in the industry, and whilst it's still early days, 76% of our grads...

Re: Should you say you have an offer at interviews?

I do sometimes feel a bit sorry for the panel at these auditions. If they are auditioning everybody who applies and only actually take on about 1-2% of those, it must be incredibly hard to remain focused on every single person there regardless of their ability. I am not saying that that is an excus...

Re: Should you say you have an offer at interviews?

That is great to hear from a college perspective. However, I don't think they all operate in the way you operate. I know that the ones mentioned audition all those who apply and it is those colleges I were referring to. Refreshing to hear how you operate. LOL No I'm sorry, I know that the others au...

Re: BA / Foundation MT courses Sept 18

Hi Just to add some more perspective in here, as I know that some of my lot have fallen at this hurdle. Be careful of throwing all of your money at the Foundation stage, but then having nothing left at the next stage (but not getting any of the available funding streams or DaDas etc). Just something...

Re: Mental health in performing arts

I wrote a long and detailed response, but I've deleted it as most people here simply won't understand. I've been a member of the forum for quite a long time, and really thought that as an employer of young people, and somebody who used to help train them - it was handy for everyone to have one male...

Re: Mental health in performing arts

I absolutely agree with the above. i would like to point out however, that in reality it is very difficult to solve the problems of bullying etc in Drama schools. Things might be difficult but that shouldn’t stop all of us trying. When I first started campaigning about getting better awareness arou...

Re: Mental health in performing arts

I'm sorry but this is appalling. You don't have to 'toughen people up' like this. Times have moved on. Paulears I'm not sure what your background is, but the statement being questioned here should never have been made in front of people during an audition for a university entry. Absolutely discussio...

Re: Mental health in performing arts

I have found this whole thread quite sad. Sad that this poor girl had no option but to do what she did, sad that it is very close to home for many of you,sad that some may have made the original poster feel bad - sometimes when writing you just type what comes into your head! Any awareness is good ...

Re: Mental health in performing arts

Really late to this, I didn't see the original post, and I'm not really interested in the 'politics' of the discussion, however as the person who launched #time4change - the Mental Health Charter, I do have quite an insight into this topic. NAPM are actually signed up to this initiative, and I would...
