Re: Which route?
I used to work at an FE college and one of my jobs was to collect destinations data for the art students. I literally had to ring their last contact number, rely on staff knowing or knowing someone who knew! These students could have gone to great Uni but drop out within the first term but their des...

Re: Which route?
The destinations data provided by colleges generally only gives details of where they go to first from college, so everyone might got that first job and then never work again! I think the only way I have any idea is by following ex students from my daughters dance school to see where they went on to...

Re: Which route?
My daughter applied for September 2016 to do the Level 6 at 3 colleges. She didn't get into any of them. We had been fairly sure that this would be the outcome, however she had a friend going too and wanted the invaluable audition experience. Her friend is now having a fabulous time on the Diploma c...

Re: What to do at 16?
Thought I would post a little update! My daughter started on her BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts and hated the first week. She felt sure she had made the wrong choice and asked me to contact someone at the college to discuss moving to Health and Social Care as her backup option in the futur...

Re: Wilkes academy/Millennium
We spoke to staff from Wilkes last year at Move It and they were absolutely lovely, they couldn't be more helpful and appeared genuinely interested. I haven't heard or seen anything I wasn't impressed by. My daughter has a friend who is going in September and is incredibly excited. The only drawback...

Re: What to do at 16?
We had gone to the open evening but due to other commitments hadn't managed to get there until about 10 minutes before the end when everything was being or had already been wound down. That was definately a mistake! My son is currently in year 10 and I have learnt a few things ready for when it's hi...

Re: What to do at 16?
My DD has now got a place at a College doing a BTEC! We had been warned off by other people saying the quality at this particular college wasn't good so we hadn't considered it. I booked tickets to go and see their annual musical theatre production and was more than pleasantly surprised. As a local ...

Re: What to do at 16?
I have two more children to go through this school. Thankfully both are more confident, less sensitive and both belligerent enough that they will not react in the same way. I will be DEMANDING copies of grades and references when they are issued - my next child is currently year 10. The school is go...

Re: What to do at 16?
Well the letter was a no :(. Sadly my dd wasn't the slightest bit surprised. Her school sending out the grades wrong is just an indicator of the school as a whole, and they have completely robbed her of her confidence. Will just plan on the A Levels and wait for results day and see if things move be...

Re: What to do at 16?
She is doing the grades as she isn't a 'ballet' person, however she also does the grade 8 class, intermediate ballet and advanced 1 when she can manage it.

Re: What to do at 16?
My daughters GCSE dance syllabus definitely isn't any preparation for performing. She is at advanced 1 level for tap and modern and grade 7 ballet and does all the extras she can, doing as many performances she can and that's what will get her somewhere I think. She should get an A for the GCSE but ...

Re: What to do at 16?
That's really interesting, thank you. I am just going to stop worrying about the whole thing and see what happens! Her A Level choices are Biology, Psychology with single BTEC in health and social care. Backups if she gets mostly Cs are Sociology, BTEC applied science and BTEC health and social care...
