3rd year support

Hi all, Are your Colleges prioritising 3rd years? On return in March my DD and fellow 3rd years were told they'd be the priority but there are no plans for the end of year show (no showcase) and still no solid plans for graduation. This means they only had one end of year show experience as first ye...

Re: Auditioning for 2020 entry

I share concerns about how Colleges will operate in September. Whilst my DD has a full remote timetable (mixture of live classes with some pre-recorded classes) this is beginning to take it's toll on the wider family. The space available is our kitchen/dining room which means it's pretty much out of...

Re: Commercial Dance?

Wilkes academy (based in Swindon) have a varied timetable in terms of genres (ballet, tap, modern, jazz, contemporary, commercial, acting, singing) but do a high level of Commercial classes and past-students have gone on to work in the Commercial sector, such as music videos/live music acts (such as ...

Re: Auditioning for 2020 entry

My daughter has almost finished auditioning and we’re thrilled with the outcome! We went into the process hoping just for something somewhere but she has been offered degree at Wilkes, MT diploma at Conti Barbican, diploma at Tiffany’s and pre-voc at Performers. She also has a recall for LIPA Dance...

Re: Auditioning for 2020 entry

Great, just wanted to hear if I can transfer the audition deposit by baca. We watched their videos last night on You Tube and our daughter was amazed. The biggest issue is she is 15 so when she was offered the scholarship audition is was excited it that isn’t for this year so now she will need a sc...

Re: Auditioning for 2020 entry

Has anyone audition for Wilkes, my daughter is blown away by their performances and wants to audition. Sadly she has a scholarship audition for Wilkes but it for 2021? It’s a school we know nothing about. Hi, my DD is currently a second year at Wilkes and chose it over other offers at more well kno...

Re: Best time to apply for Sept 2020

My DD is now in her second year and often provides advice to those going through the audition process. She auditioned at Urdang, Laine, Bird, Wilkes and Performers are was offered places at all (most with funding offers) but only managed this by spreading out the auditions as far as possible in case...

My DD is going to Wilkes Academy with a full scholarship. Induction days completed and is now very excited to start in September. Good luck to all.

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

My top tip would be to research everything you can about each college and course content. My DD is Adv 2 for tap, ballet and modern and she although didn’t want to specialise in these she still wanted to keep up with classes. Some colleges don’t have weekly tap or pointe classes so were rejected for...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

Sounds to me like GSA really want him and are ready to be flexible in order for him to choose them whereas Laine have come in later and ranked him below others. For me, and my DD it felt right to go somewhere that were REALLY keen to secure her as a first choice. I’m sure whichever College your DS c...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

It’s nowhere near £1000! It’s for Wilkes Academy and only £250 but my DD does already have nice headshots which a friend took in preparation for the auditions. I guess we just pay to get more! Thankfully she also has most of the expensive uniform items too (tap shoes, pointe shoes etc.) Many thanks ...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

Can anyone offer advice regarding any ‘add-on’ costs for new starters in Sept? My DD has received an Induction pack which clearly (and very helpfully) sets out uniform requirements but also a request for ‘Performance fee and Headshots’ which is required very soon. As a complete newbie I wasn’t expec...

Re: Seeds of doubt now

Please don’t forget that all our children are special, and that’s what makes us support them, often at a huge financial cost to us parents!! Having a passion is a huge bonus to young people, when so many drift into courses not knowing which route to take into adulthood. Whilst it’s a difficult caree...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

I’m astounded at the resilience our young adults have. My DD is currently in Exam prep class for her Adv 2 ballet exam tomorrow then will be revising all night for her A levels. September can’t come quick enough when all she needs to concentrate on is her full time training. Huge congratulations to ...
