Re: Housing benefit for BTEC and Foundation 16-18

Thanks everyone - he has found the letter they sent requesting additional info - putting it all together for him. Difficult as we live overseas so not 'on hand' to directly help. Will revise the letter I have drafted for him so say that we had had to support him as he has no other income but cannot...

Re: Housing benefit for BTEC and Foundation 16-18

It is £57 per week. Your DC will be asked how rent is topped up and what they live on at a much later stage. All of this information comes through as the claim progresses, you think you have answered everything you need to and then there is a request for something else. Make a copy of the claim for...

Re: Housing benefit for BTEC and Foundation 16-18

Can they work and claim? Is there a limit on how much they can earn? Finally if they come every weekend can they claim? I don't think you need to say what they do at weekends. The rent covers all week I assume or all month if it's monthly rent. As for work. Yes there is a limit. Off the top of my h...

Re: Housing benefit for BTEC and Foundation 16-18

Re Guildford housing benefit - did they communicate via email or post. My DS application as been in for about 3 weeks now but he has not heard anything. Chase them by phone....my DD’s letters went missing on the way to Uni. We got her to tell them they were allowed to talk to me so I could deal wit...

Re: foundation course housing benefit

Hi. Yes - it’s always been her first choice and she isn’t going to do her remaining Trinity audition because at the moment she’d still prefer a GSA foundation year. I’m still a little confused about where we are in the procedure as she tried for the BA and was offered foundation at her recall. We’v...

Re: Times article - MT degree fees challenge

It does annoy me that the government won’t award the full £9200 student loan toward these courses, but stops at £6000. The students are attacked from both sides. They have to pay so much more than other students for many more hours of hard work, but appear to be considered inferior and not allowed a...

Re: foundation course housing benefit

Here is the leaflet link for child benefit for children aged 16+. After reading it, I don't think a foundation course is advanced education so I think you are entitled to child benefit and if you are receiving child tax credits you should also be entitled to still receive them as well. https://asse...

Re: foundation course housing benefit

Re: foundation course housing benefit

The letter just said that she was not eligible because she was a student. I had phoned the housing department before we applied and told them the situation and they said then that she was eligible. I know of students from last year's course that did eventually get it so I'm not giving up either. I'...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

Hi Yes I spent about 5 months arguing with the council for HB for Sidcup for Bird Foundation. Child can only earn about £50 before they take anything off benefit and amount you get depends on area. Full payment in Sidcup was £84.27 per week so helps towards accommodation. Its based on childs saving...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

Hi there - hello everyone I’m new on here - I’ve been lurking for a while but I’ve been a bit too shy to post. I just wondered if you could tell me how you went about convincing the council that the foundation course was suitable for housing benefit. My DD has luckily received two offers for founda...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

I'm guessing you can't get the maintenance loan to help with accommodation? Hi Marissa The only help you can get is Housing Benefit and, depending on where the foundation course is based, the local council can be a nightmare to get it from Others have spoken about it on the forum if you search back...
