Re: First TVC - Questions!

I'd echo admin's comment - having an agent is a two way process. They want you and you want them. Don't feel that you are annoying them by asking questions. Clearly you don't want them to view you as a pain, but equally, one of the balancing acts is keeping a name 'in their mind'.

Re: RSL qualification

Unis should have heard of it by then, but I agree it's a bit of a gamble. I got quite excited about the University of the Arts Qualifications and did some work for them moderating, but I think they were surprised how it suddenly exploded. I suspect people just have had enough of BTEC and the subtle ...

Re: RSL qualification

The music grades are similar to the old ones I took years ago - but the presentation is very much 'modern' with the usual GCSE/A Level/BTEC easy explanation. I had a look at the grade 8 examples and like the old exams, there are scales and a knowledge of modes - although that doesn't seem to form pa...

Re: RSL qualification

Rockschool, because of their history - are genuine providers and as they are on the Government framework, there are agreed UCAS points. For what it's worth, Although I'm a previous A Level Principal Examiner, I am not well enough qualified to examine music for Rockschool from the musical perspective...

Re: Cruise Ships - how to get fired!

One of the posts I replied to has vanished? The cruise ship system is extremely odd. Depending on your status, you might bot be allowed to have a drink with the passengers, or you might - but not be able to sit down. You are not allowed to drink - with breathalyser tests possible, yet they have a cr...

Re: Cruise Ships - how to get fired!

Disney have had a rule on dairy, fruit and veg for quite a while - now whole ships get locked down when the noro virus gets going, they take it very seriously - anything that could perish can't be kept in a fridge in the cabins.

Cruise Ships - how to get fired!

One of my old dancers sent me this youtube link that everyone thinking of working on a cruise ship should watch. So much is obvious, but sounds much better coming from a younger person.

Re: How to narrow the choices?

One of my dancers told me a sneaky way to get info - Facebook. Look for students of the schools you fancy, and send friend requests. Dancers usually accept requests from other dancers, even if they don't know them, and then you just ask them what they think. Her younger sister had done this and had ...

Re: P2P Productions

They're something to do with the Act Now school can't find any details about the P2P 'company' so I expect it's just the name the school use for their productions.

Re: daughter wants to act any advice

You need to think this through - there are huge numbers of acting graduates who can not only act, but understand how to act. Of course some people just walk into parts often based on appearance and learn on the job - you se quite a few on soaps nowadays, where they are not acting at all, but simply ...

Re: Which route?

It's called cheating. When exam boards get made aware of cheating, the usual result is that somebody asks the students concerned to voluntarily withdraw from the examination. Examiners always bring what they suspect as cheating to the supervisors attention, but rarely does it get made public. As for...

Re: Which route?

The current BTEC does have rules on re-assessment but they're quite simple to manage. Good staff can make a big difference to the pass and merit kids, but most poor grades in BTEC are simply from not following the rules - and just doing the minimum. The teachers are really just offering good assessm...

Re: Which route?

If we were having this conversation on a plumbing forum, everything would be so simple - dreams and hopes and fun wouldn't be clouding the issue. As we're talking about an arts subject, the whole thing gets muddied up. In virtually every college I ever taught at, or visited as a verifier for BTEC, D...

Re: Taking your own headshots?

If you can produce the kind of quality photographs that other people use, the Spotlight won't care who took them - but presumably you will have somebody actually taking them as unless you have eyes on stalks and very long arms, you can't be in them and take them - so credit whoever does actually tak...

Re: Dance confusion - please help!

It's an absolute advantage to be able to sing, but actual singing grades are not perhaps as important. Simply that being able to sing makes you more desirable at audition. We often just assume dancers can sing and to find a few who can't when looking for example, at understudy roles, can be a shock.
