Re: Rearranging audition times

It's good in a way you're being faced with these decisions early on - franky, so many younger people never really have to learn how to make decisions, and even worse get used to when you made the wrong one, and there's nobody to blame. At school because of the way things are, and the law in many cas...

Re: New Spotlight and Equity membership criteria

Looks like we're all agreeing on this one. Clearly there are far too many places providing training that may fit the educational rules but is frankly below par, industry requirements wise. I'm not sold on Equity really - I'm not actually sure what actual use they are. Even the Musicians Union, proba...

Re: Rearranging audition times

I think you perhaps need to have a think. Casting is a very one-shot process. Far too many people going after a very small number of jobs. Unless they come looking for you, rather than you looking to them - they really do not care if you turn up or not, but they WILL remember your name. One bot of a...

Re: New Spotlight and Equity membership criteria

I can't speak for the spotlight side, but from Equities point of view, it's a joke. No conventional university programme has that amount of contact hours, and while the performing type places that offer the proper qualification almost as an afterthought, can tick the boxes, ordinary unis cannot, and...

Re: Pianist to record a backing track needed

Going slightly Off topic - but do keep in mind that the result of tracks created from some sheet music is actually dire - not the pianist's fault, but the transcriptions are simply awful. The current trend for popular songs to have never featured a piano on the original, but perhaps guitar, or synth...

Yes - if you draw a blank, PM me and I can pass on details of an excellent pianist.

What is the track? One of us might already have it?

Re: Best value Foundation courses?

They want to - but three nights every week is a big commitment, and somehow isn't the same as day time. You'll find that many people may well have day time jobs, so evenings and a job means they just don't have the ability to do every session, which is quite understandable, but damn annoying. We oft...

Re: Best value Foundation courses?

That's about 300 hours a year - so what period? a year? Price wise that's not bad really. The question is really about the performance side. 3 Evenings a week suggests that the performances will be probably small and low profile - the logistics of doing a proper show with part timers is pretty compl...

Re: Stage School

Also - whenever you watch these programmes, consider the actual shooting. It's rare to send two cameras, so when you see that lovely distant shot, with no cameras visible, and then it cuts to a close up - that is a separation in time - so if the action is continuous, they did it twice! Like a movie,...

Re: Best value Foundation courses?

Is this not just down to the size of your purse? There are a few 'ifs' - but assuming you can afford it .... Is two years at 16 at somewhere like Italia Conti worthwhile doing = yes Is two years getting an A* at the local college worthwhile doing = yes Is two years at a more distant, better, college...

Re: Stage School

I always smile when organisations who really should understand the business get it wrong like this. These are all about entertainment - and everyone should remember that, especially the bosses of the establishments who seem to go in wearing the rose coloured specs and then suddenly get a shock.

Re: Changing agency - etiquette?

Irishdancer's spot on here. The agencies often want a continued 'hook' that they can use in case the new agent gets you a plumb job, and the useless one maintains it's because of their effort in promotion. Like Brexit - it's all down to negotiation.

Re: Self tapes

Always show your self-tapes to somebody who you trust to be honest. Be aware that I've seen quite a few because they get forwarded to people for all the wrong reasons. They don't have to be technically brilliant - but they need clean sound. The one I saw last week had road works outside the house wi...

Re: Interesting Twitter convo re acting without drama school

I must say there are a few sensible ideas in that link - but it does show how detached from the reality many of the respondents are. I get the feeling that people don't quite get it at all. You don't need to go to any form of acting school if you have the natural talent, and have done proper researc...

Re: D A Music Group

While we tend to shy away from agencies who charge huge amounts for photographs, the recording situation is a bit different. When they say take her on, what do they mean? I'm thinking that they perhaps mean taking her onto their record label? The usual and quite historic situation is that they agree...
