Dada and deposits
If you've been asked to pay a deposit to reserve a place on a course with a Dada, then please query it with CDET because they aren't allowed to charge deposits to people offered a Dada (I checked). There is at least one place I've heard of on the grapevine that's doing this...

Re: September 2015
Best of luck to all those auditioning at Stella Mann in Bedford.
No need to go to Milton Keynes while you wait for them to audition - Bedford is a large town and has a big shopping complex and plenty of parking in the town centre. There's a retail park on the outskirts too.

Re: How much is Health Insurance & which companies?
I think many of the vocational schools & colleges have their own scheme (with BUPA or whoever) that they want all their students to join, so maybe ask them?

Re: Value of degree in the real world?
Good point carriecrafts, and I'm wondering whether the same also applies if they have had a DaDa instead of a student loan - does anyone know?

Re: Value of degree in the real world?
Something that strikes me about the degree-level qualification particularly for dancers, is that it is a relatively short career (and can be brought to an abrupt end by injury). They really do need a qualification to fall back on, and to enable them to retrain if they wish. My dd is a classical ball...

Re: GCSE or BTEC
The dance department at Chichester College has quite a good reputation, so I hear, so the GCSE dance course is far more likely to be taught by a 'proper' dance teacher! As others have said, the vocational schools/colleges aren't really interested in GCSE dance as a qualification, and I've never come...

Re: Dada
Ah - I was under the impression that if you qualify for the full DaDa and are offered one, then schools aren't supposed to charge a huge deposit because it would adversely affect those on low incomes who can't afford to do that...?

Re: Dada
Sarah761 - have a look at the Tring letter again - I'm not sure, but I think the deposit is only if you want to accept the place regardless. If you need a Dada and want to attend the funding audition I don't think you have the pay the deposit up-front. Not certain of this, you could always give the ...

Re: September 2015
Thanks Pearl, she has an offer from Northern Ballet School, funding final for Tring, and has finals at two other dance schools. Really enjoying reading about the adventures of others on here, as I don't know too much about MT/drama courses. Best of luck to everyone with dc's auditioning (and with GC...

Re: September 2015
OMG, DD has had 4 auditions so far, and I can't quite get my head around this - she has three invites to funding finals and one outright offer! She's so thrilled, and still has 3 more auditions to come...

Re: Child performance licence news
Thanks for that - dd is a classical dancer so we don't get embroiled in licences all that often. So - I was wrongly advised that they will now need a chaperone until they're 18?

Re: Child performance licence news
I must admit I'm now a bit confused - so sorry if this is a daft question!! What age does a child stop needing a performance licence, and is that the same age as when they stop having to have a chaperone? Someone told me they need a chaperone if they are under statutory school-leaving age (which use...

Re: Northern Ballet School Manchester
Well well well, she has an offer! Don't know what to do now because she also has finals somewhere else, and other auditions still to come. They want to know soon, and send the DaDa form filled in, but what happens to that if she gets in somewhere else with a DaDa and decides to go there instead?

Re: Northern Ballet School Manchester
Yes, she knows she needs to be versatile, and does contemporary and jazz as well as ballet. MT/commercial etc isn't her thing, her main focus is classical/contemporary and it's early days with the auditions so we'll see what happens!

Re: Northern Ballet School Manchester
Thanks, yes I found that thread already, but there isn't all that much detail. We got the impression on the audition day that ballet isn't the foundation and core of the training that we thought it would be, and that it is more all-round dance, with most of the graduates going on to theatrical/cruis...
