Re: Performing school for Y 10

I suspect you're cutting it a bit fine for entry in Septemer 2012 - certainly for full time education. I don't know any database but some performing arts schools that come to mind for those ages are Tring Park, Italia Conti (London?) and the Brit School (Croydon) Sylvia Young? You would need to cont...

Re: MOVE IT

Agree - have a fantastic time. We can't make it this year either regretfully as DDs are way too busy.

Re: auditions for full time dance schools

Congratulations to your DD Dance&Smile - I agree - the more offers hopefully the better chance of getting a DADA but it could be an agonizingly long wait. In theory it is sometime in July that they have to make their final decision so some DADAs could be in the system as it were for quite a whil...

Re: medical cover for students at MT colleges

Thanks, I have done. This seems to be a new issue in the ballet schools as previously it has been standard to use the school policy - but they are tellling us now - not to. I just hoped this forum might reach a wider pool of knowledge as its a minefield to research.

Re: auditions for full time dance schools

Wow - offers from 5 colleges - that is impressive and certainly looks hopeful for a DADA award. It will be an agonizingly long wait. Are the funding auditions at least out the way before the GCSEs start? Good luck also at Bird college. I know my DD is throwing herself into her work and trying not to...

medical cover for students at MT colleges

Has anyone any advice for finding medical cover for a 16 year hoping to start at a vocational college in September. The school used to have their own scheme but are advising to look elsewhere as their insurance partner hiked prices and imposed a large excess. She will be doing a lot of dancing so th...

Re: Liberatus, Swindon

I don't know anything about the college in terms of reputation, standard of teaching etc. However, I do know that the course is for 16-18 year olds and is a level 3 dilpoma in foundation studies (dance). I believe that makes it an alternative to A levels rather than a college offering a degree equiv...

Re: Funding for dance college

I don't personally have any experience of either foundation courses or finding funding. Did you apply for the foundation course or for the 3 year course? However, I have asked advice from a friend who was in your position about 3 years ago. she started by looking at National Council for Drama Traini...

Re: Graduation present for male ballet student

I would agree with you for the photos as that is a lovely idea. When I went to work overseas for 15 months I had to fit everything in the luggage I could take on the plane with me. Rather than take any albums I had a couple of lightweight A4 size picture frames with a collage of family and friends i...

Re: Needing dance help....

On the subject of exam boards - RAD is probably the most recognised nationally and internationally for ballet. Often ballet courses/summer schools will state entry requirements in terms of RAD grade levels. ISTD is also very good but as another poster said teaching is only ever as good as the teache...

Re: Needing dance help....

Without knowing which syllabus your DD is doing for ballet and jazz this is a best guess on what my DDs have done at their dance school. They do RAD ballet and IDTA modern jazz. For jazz, as far as I am aware, an exam for a medal is very short and they just do a dance (or 2 depending on level) so I ...

Some of us are still here - well in both places actually - and balletcoforum is at the moment only until sometime in March so who knows what will happen then! Busy time in ballet world as its audition time with most results known in March.

Re: auditions for full time dance schools

Wow ! Congratulations for your DD's place at Bird - and even better - with funding - and even better you haven't had to wait ages to find out if you get funding. Fantastic news and so pleased for her. Good luck with her other auditions too.

Re: What type of dance?

I would agree with the other posters - definately ballet and I would have thought modern jazz rather than tap, given that he already has some tap training. Jazz is such a broad genre and he will learn in his grades a little bit of lots of styles ie lyrical, commercial that will help with Musical the...

Re: auditions for full time dance schools

Not applied for mids as my DD is older and auditioning for colleges but I can tell you that you have quite a long wait before you hear anything as the assoicate letters are not sent out until after the final auditions for a fulltime place at the school. These are in March.
