Re: Anybody ever been to a premiere?!
Thanks everyone - ridiculous how much fuss this has caused. DS decided he wanted a suit so have spent last 2 days hunting one down (let's just say he's the right width for his age - just 2 feet too short, why do most boys clothes stop at age 12!), then he wanted DMs etc etc. Anyway, I've got a nice ...

Anybody ever been to a premiere?!
Mad I know - suddenly I am attending the Avengers movie premiere in London in 10 days with DS. Am just a (large) middle aged housewife from Yorkshire - I know they won't be looking at me (thank god!!) but what should I wear? Is a long dress too OTT (maxis are in fashion I believe?). DS will go in je...

Re: Casting queries *newbie alert*
Hi Dan, Paulears and Flosmum both offer very sound advice and I would echo all of it. One more thing to bear in mind - I don't know your circumstances but it's very hard to support a child though all this if you have other commitments - a job, another DC, anything that requires regular attendance. A...

Re: Paying tax abroad
Can't add much but TalyaB is right, children are not exempt from UK tax, therefore I would have thought it unlikely HMRC would issue such a letter in any circumstances. An accountant would be the person to consult but you might be better off just paying the tax than paying their fees!

Re: Audition room secrets from experiences NAPM's
As lollypop says - first and foremost let her enjoy it! She's only 7 - let her have fun and then, after the audition try to forget about it ! I know it's hard but we have always tried to see (and get DS to see) auditions as a bit of fun and then move on. As Doris would have said 'que sera sera..' Oh...

Re: Dada or student loan ?
I know it doesn't really answer your question but Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has a very interesting article about student loans and repaying them here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/studen ... es-changes I found it very interesting.

Re: Dancer but not so much a singer!
In my (limited) experience most performers have varied strengths and weaknesses - very few can sing, dance AND act all to the same level and I am certain colleges appreciate this. They are, after all, in the business of delveloping talent - if everyone came fully formed they'd be out of a job

Re: Drama School
As usual PG is the font of all wisdom. Children really need to enjoy their extra curricular activities and, ideally, their schooling - plenty of time to be miserable later in life  That said, if your DS wants to stay (or if you feel there are academic advantages) I would talk to the school abou...

Re: Value of degree in the real world?
Ta for the encourgaement Paulears but he has actually tried. The problem is he works in education (i.e. he's a school IT manager) and these kind of jobs tend to be a kind of 'tick box' approach. Feedback from those he's applied for and the 2 interviews he's had has been ' you've got lots of experien...

Re: Value of degree in the real world?
Funnygirl it is my understanding that any degree (followed by a year's PGCE) will allow you to teach ANY subject. My DD's drama teacher had a degree in law! However, one assumes that, if DD had to 'fall back' on teaching she'd like to teach drama. I agree that a more 'academic' degree is preferable ...

Re: Value of degree in the real world?
As the originator of the quote I though I'd add my two pennyworth! My DH, at 48, hates his current job (a personality clash) He's been there 8 years and in the IT industry for 20+ so he has huge experience but he can't even apply for other, similar jobs because, in every case, an essential requireme...
