Re: permission refused. is head mistress being unreasonable?
"School clamping down"? We are talking about two different things here and maybe this is what create confusion. One thing is to ask permission to take the child out of school for holidays or whatsoever, totally different thing is a child working in entertainment which is regulated ...

Re: permission refused. is head mistress being unreasonable?
I really hope I will not sound repetitive or obsessed because it sounds like I am going on and on. It is not up to the school to authorise it. It is only LEA's responsability to do it (they can ask to the school a report on the child, NOT the authorisation). Once LEA gives the licence, by law the sc...

Re: BFG film
Deb is absolutely right about the West End open auditions. They are really open (anybody that fit the brief can apply and get the chance) I am really amazed of the incredible opportunities given to literally every single child who has a talent and/or a passion for singing or dancing. I am speaking f...

Re: permission refused. is head mistress being unreasonable?
Thanks eleanorrigby66. As you say It's really not a teachers place to say which field is worthy and which is not! In fact by law it is not. Let's start to use the law and let's start to ignore arrogant headteachers that think they have life and death powers over the children and to support the ones ...

Re: permission refused. is head mistress being unreasonable?
Thanks to you Deb and Jules. I am so proud of my letter that every time I read it I feel like to take a bow    jules1066, it is not the parent but the company that asks for the licence and the company when fill the form does say the requested time. If this changes the company asks LEA...

Re: permission refused. is head mistress being unreasonable?
This was the letter I sent to the Local Authority. Although at first they said they wouldn't ever go against the school, after receiving the letter, they gave the licence. And I know that it did work also for other LEAs. Dear Ms XXX (LEA), Thank you for taking the time to talk to me last XXXXX. As d...

Re: permission refused. is head mistress being unreasonable?
Yes, it was me writing the letter. I can't find the thread. It was something like "what the law says about the licence". Can admin resume the thread? It is not in my old post either. Alternatevely, I can see if I find the original one and take away all the peronal bits to make it more like...

Re: Stage article - too many drama school places
Hope my post doesn't sound to depressing too, TotallycluelessMum. It is also true that there are lots of undergraduates in all different professions without a job and with the debt built up during the University's years. I suppose the best bet it is to follow the talent whichever it is and hope for ...

Re: Stage article - too many drama school places
Totally agree with the article. tbh what I do with the children in terms of theatre/singing/dancing is for me a very important part of their education and I really like the idea of all these new 'adventures' that they can experiment and that they will treasure for life (and this is the way I present...
