Re: Auditioning for 2020 entry

Foundation courses - you are correct, these are not funded by student loan. Housing benefit used to be available to help with housing costs though a battle to actually get it if you read back through some of the previous threads on the subject. I do not know how this will be affected by 'universal c...

Re: Insurance

I responded to Kingswayqueens original query on the 'Auditioning for Sept 19' thread with a fuller response but the 2 companies we used for DD were AXA PP for the 1st two years and Aviva for her final year. DD went at 16 so we only changed companies because we needed new quotes for her as an 18 year...

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

We had medical insurance for DD when she was at college - graduated 4 years ago. You do need research a bit and be prepared to make a few phone calls. My husband sorted it out - we had been advised to check in particular for policies that included physio and to check with physios close to her colleg...

Re: Royal Caribbean Auditions

My DD is also from a classical/contemporary/lyrical background. She was intending to audition for Mein Schiff next week - only cruise ship audition she has seen that actually states 'classical warmup' as part of the audition - perhaps worth a look for your DD? DD is not attending as she has just cho...

Re: Royal Caribbean Auditions

I cant comment specifically on Royal Caribbean as my DD has never auditioned for them but I have never heard instances of job offers at the end of the day of auditions for any cruise companies. 'now on the books' is the usual for successful auditionees - some will get a phone call or email within a ...

Re: Funding for Musical Theatre/Drama School - what do i need to know?

Differences between Trinity diploma and BA hons degree. Both are a level 6 higher education qualification but the diploma is more practical in nature as the degree has a higher academic content. Obviously there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Courses funded by student finance is the by the...

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

We have been at open days and auditions for the level 6 diploma courses where this question has been asked and the answer was that no you cannot get a student loan if you have done the level 6 diploma, even if you did not receive a DADA for the course . This is because the trinity level 6 diploma is...

Re: Dilemma about changing classes

my gut feeling for a 13 year old is that she needs to enjoy her classes. A career in performing arts is not easy and they really need to want to do it so keep her happy so that she keeps learning and does not lose her enthusiasm and passion. MT is dance, singing, acting so some sort of class/experie...

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

Wanted to echo Pearl's comment about flips and tricks and that it is dance not gymnastics. My DD graduated from a level 6 trinity diploma in 2015 and has been working as a professional dancer ever since. She has never been asked in an audition or required in a show to do anything more than a cartwhe...

Re: Btec extended diplomas

Just to add to the confusion of routes open to your DD, my DD auditioned in year 11 and ended up with a funded place at The Hammond where she studied both 2 A Levels and the level 6 Trinity diploma, graduating aged 19 and working as a performer ever since.

Re: changing track at 17 (Y13/repeating Y12) options? Cambs area

Bodyworks has a good reputation - for the level 6 diploma at least - could be worth a try at an audition for September start. I don't think they have finished auditions yet. I don't know anything about other courses there and should say my DD is a dancer and the people she knows who trained there we...

Re: Fired from job. Crushed

I'm sorry to hear you are going through such a tough time at the moment. I wouldn't worry about future employers - just make sure they are never asked for a reference for you. People change jobs all the time and for all sorts of reasons and its easy enough to just say it wasn't working out for you t...

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

CDET has now changed name I think to CDMT - its the council? for dance, drama and musical theatre education. The conferences tend to be twice a year and are a chance for the children to take masterclasses with some of the schools and parents to learn about the application and funding processes and a...

no personal experience of any of these but do know of at least one person with SEN who was well supported at BOA. Other than BOA, they are just ones I've heard about in passing conversations: Birmingham Ormiston (BOA) Birmingham Theatre School The Manchester College Midlands Academy of Musical Theat...

Re: On-line schooling

If you have facebook, I would suggest searching for home education + your town to see if you can find a home ed group local to you who will be able to advise about your local education authority, options and any learning groups set up in your area. My local area has regular get together days for spo...
