Re: How do you get good video for showreels?

There are loads of different editing packages you can use, some free, some not. I'm not sure what DD used for her 1st showreel but for her latest one she just used windows movie maker - perhaps not the slickest or quickest one out there but it did the job. There is no issue with having other people ...

Re: Extracurricular training query for 12 year old

I would suggest either the musical theory or more ballet as well. Ballet -I don't know what syllabus your DD follows for ballet but for RAD our teacher considers up to and including grade 5 to be basic technique levels, 6-8 to be higher grades for non-vocational students and would expect those that ...

Re: Foundation at Laine

I think my view on this depends on the type of offer more so than the actual college as at the end of the day. . At the end of the day a student needs to get good training, they need the opportunities to flourish and to be seen at showcases. Getting into an audition is dependent on a good agent as m...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

Congratulations to your DD Marissa. Glad it was good news after such a long wait! Accommodation: not sure what your options are for the degree course at the Hammond but we visited the uni on an open day recently and did not think much of most of the uni accommodation. We were recommended to consider...

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019 - 6th Form

The Hammond in Chester offers 2 A levels alongside the 3 year Trinity Diploma in either Musical Theatre or Dance. A real mix of ages - 16 year olds (who do A levels) and 18+ who do pilates or Zumba in the time slots allocated to A level studies ie those doing A levels are not missing any classes fro...

Re: Living in London 18+ and acting opportunities

You have a good offer from GSA - I confess I am a little unsure what you hope your DS will gain from a year working in London. Does he already have an agent and is he getting plenty of auditions/roles? If he hasn't, then I fear the reality would be that he would end up working long hours in pubs or ...

Re: Training at 16 or 18 ?

Congratulations on your DD's offer at Bird. In terms of when she graduates college I think you will find it makes no difference whether she graduates at 19 or at 21. My DD went at 16 and has found that the majority of auditions where minimum age is stated the min age is stated as 18. The only except...

Re: Converting diploma to degree

I don't have information specific to Bird - I think theirs has only been running a couple of years. You can also do a conversion course through Middlesex University, GSA and Arts Ed. They are in essence top up courses to include a few extra academic modules and the dissertation not included in the a...

Re: BA / Foundation MT courses Sept 18

I feel for you, not an easy situation to be in. We had a similar situation a number of years ago - we were snowed in but many miles away the audition town was free of snow so we missed it. Do check with the uni for the situation there but the only other bit of advice I can give you is to keep checki...

Re: Midlands Academy of Musical Theatre

I think its only been running for a few years. I know they have a facebook page and it looks like lots of performance opportunities. They may not yet have an established graduate reputation but they will be working hard to get their graduates out there and establish one.

Re: We have new headshots - how do we choose?

wow- that's going to be difficult! How many do you aim to end up with? My DD was advised to choose her favourites but try and get a variety of looks ie hair down or tied up, smiling or not smiling, a B&W and a colour. DD happily dismissed quite a few of her and enlisted opinions of family and fr...

Re: Realistically is it possible to combine auditioning and modelling after graduation?

oh maybe not a cruise contract then! My DD didn't go to a college with an 'inhouse' agency as it were so they had a number of graduate showcase performances where agents were invited and took note of who they liked and got a chance to have a brief chat with them after the performance. The college al...

Re: Realistically is it possible to combine auditioning and modelling after graduation?

no, you are not fooling yourself - something that makes her stand out (in a good way) helps get her notice and get her remembered. Your DD is in for a few busy months but I am sure there will be help through her college for graduate showcase, photos, advice about agents etc. As well as headshots, pr...

Re: Realistically is it possible to combine auditioning and modelling after graduation?

There are a lot of shows auditioning at the moment - but I would imagine there will be more around april/may time. Auditions at this stage are good practice but as you say , leave too early and perhaps not graduate. My advice, for what its worth, would be to concentrate on getting an agent, whether ...
