Re: Arts Ed Principal has resigned following external investigation

Some ex students are defending the practices. It is clear that they were groomed into this way of thinking.

Re: Arts Ed Principal has resigned following external investigation

I do have to say that although my dd certainly had issues at her last school following a change of management there was (unknown to us at the time) a serious allegation made against a teacher (albeit academic) that was immediately taken seriously. The teacher suddenly disappeared (we’d actually comp...

Re: Arts Ed Principal has resigned following external investigation

I would agree that there is more to come out. Many on Twitter are asking why is he report/article not about someone else but there may be good reason for that if there is a possibility of future legal proceedings. The inquiry into possible misconduct began in June 2021. Just a month later a show inv...

Re: Auditioning for 2021 entry

Musical theatre is her first love but ultimately she says she wants to tell stories. She did have access to good singing teaching previously but she felt that she was a little too young to make the most of it when she was 16. She need to mature a bit and so now is getting the best out of her vocal t...

Re: Auditioning for 2021 entry

My daughter has absolutely loved her first two weeks at Associated Studios. It's a small cohort but she feels everything is very industry relevant. After being at vocational dance school sine the age of 11 she finds the dance very simple but she knew that and the teachers are working hard to differe...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

Hi all, My dd is trying to finish her ucas application and she is trying to put in her dance exams. Does anyone know for ISTD vocational whether it is National Tap or Stage Branch tap as she has to pick one of these! Any ideas, her certificate just says Tap Dance! Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

I’d hesitated to use the word flashy but that’s the word my daughter used too. My husband did some work at Wilkes several years back and is friends with one of their teachers as they used to work together at a different college. Jonathan is from our local area originally so I know of some of the ear...

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

Just to clarify, although my son is studying music it is his friends on the Btec musical theatre course who are being offered places. His college is non selective, entry is entirely dependent on gaining 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 and there is a huge variety in standards.

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

They are Btec students who have a pretty clear idea due to ongoing assesments what their grades will be.

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

It looks very snazzy from their online videos!

My ds is studying Btec music at a local FE college and lots of the students on their MT courses seem to have been offered places at LMA. (And I mean lots).

Re: Number of hours for 6th form courses

For state funded vocational courses approx 15-18 hours per week are usually funded. Sometimes a private college will top up those hours by charging fees. Sometimes it will seem like hours are more due to study periods eg my son is studying a music Btec and Wednesday afternoons are compulsory Directe...

Re: Performers College BTEC Course

The ESFA fund up to 600 study hours per academic year per student at a rate of £4,188. In addition performing arts vocations courses have a 1.2 uplift and there are also area specific/retention uplifts. How many hours per week this covers depends on how many weeks there are in a term. With VAT the e...

Re: Performers College BTEC Course

There website states 18.5 hours (its not the Btec its the RSL diploma) which is fairly standard for state funded Btec/UAL/RSL courses. Usually colleges that offer more hours charge top up fees for those hours. Its about 3.5 days per week.

Re: Auditioning for 2021 entry

After seeing many kids struggle with traditional freshers I wouldn’t worry about missing about. Freshers is great for some but very lonely for those who don’t find socialising easy. Best to get stuck into the normal routine and meet people in that way.

Re: Auditioning for 2022 entry

We did open days in Year 10, which obviously wasn’t possible for this years cohort. We did limit visits in year 11. We did one open evening for which dd needed to leave school slightly early to get there but saved the time off fir actual auditions. At all the auditions she attended there was a talk ...
