Re: Mental health in performing arts

Liv was a close friend of my son's. Please do not speculate. There was certainly no bullying AT ALL by the excellent, supportive college she attended or students. I applauded her when she received their Rising Star Award - and I remember everyone's joy when her successful audition for Pippin was ann...

Re: Performers College Degree Course

I think a positive outcome of purely degree courses could be that young people would have to have a higher level of formal education and be older when they apply - and are mature enough to cope with the pressures - not just swept away by the dream of performing in the west end when auditioning at 15...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

Yes our dd is off to Urdang pre-voc too. Think they'll all have a great time. Good opportunity to gauge standard and find out about the whole audition process for the future. Good luck to everyone attending. Enjoy!

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

There seem to be some great general MT Btecs around, but I doubt if many can cater for a more advanced dancer who's been training vocationally. My dd, albeit not trained vocationally, is working at advanced levels in dance and I think she will look for great overall theatrical training next year (eg...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

That's very useful to know about the information that can be seen from Ofsted reports. Most top PA colleges have got Outstanding, so it seems Millennium might have a few things to sort out. I have to admit that I only know of girls going when other options have not worked out, but generally that's b...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

We are adding Bodens to our list as it looks impressive, but unfortunately can't make their next Open Day. I had a very good response to an email I sent them. Certainly seems worth considering and would be commutable for dd. She's in Year 10 but am glad we are looking now. Can anyone comment on the ...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

I believe most university courses would need the equivalent of three A levels, so it appears that Urdang's course could prevent you from auditioning for certain degree courses afterwards, whereas BTECs, although possibly of a lower vocational level, keep the degree door open. But I could be wrong. Fu...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

We have another year but I've realised people are auditioning now for 2018 therefore in a year's time dd could be. What is now putting me off are the huge numbers I'm hearing about almost everywhere. Where can you actually find out the "number on roll" as such for a Btec, Diploma or Degree...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

Just wanted to add that we saw the Emildale Night at the Musicals performed by mixture of BTEC and older Gap year students. It was really excellent - especially the singing and acting through song. Musical arrangements were stunning (v high quality MD) as was the staging and the choreography - altho...

Re: Full time training 11-16... Italia Conti, Sylvia Young

I think it depends on your financial situation and the quality of both your secondary school academic provision and local performing arts provision. My dd would have loved to have trained vocationally from 11 but even with part scholarships it was not financially viable. However, I now feel that we ...

Re: WEK

Kids travel from everywhere - including Isle of Wight, Coventry, Essex, Surrey, Herts, Suffolk really from anywhere - have even been some in training from abroad (not sure how feasible that is). The training sessions are 3.5 hours (am or pm depending on colour) ; the troupe is about nine hours - all...

Re: WEK

My DD would not be where she is without WEK. They have very high expectations and work the kids very hard - but the results are really good. There are four "colour" training companies and the main performance troupe. This year the troupe has had amazing performance opportunities including ...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

I am really interested to see where this thread is going and whether anyone can offer any more answers. The issue raised is playing on my mind too although we're coming from a different angle. My dd is not training vocationally yet but wants to. She wants to try when approaching 16, I want her to wa...

Re: West End kids workshop audition

Hi This is my first post too but my dd insisted I reply to your post. She is currently in the main WEK troupe. She began in training and worked her way up into the company. It is the most demanding thing she does - but also the best. There is nothing like it anywhere. They are tough but they aim to ...
