Hi there
DD (12) is auditioning for this in January as a performer. It states that she is to pick a musical theatre song and bring sheet music for a pianist - no backing track. Does anyone know if she would be ok to sing acapella? This is purely down to the fact that the arrangement she is singing differs slightly from the sheet music and it will just put her off and I'm not a musician so can't change anything for her to take with her. Not sure what the rules are though as can't find any reference to this.
Many thanks
Lou

Re: NYMT Audition
You can always email them and ask..personally I wouldn't recommend it as they specifically want to hear singing with accompanying piano.
I asked DS if he has seen anyone audition like this before and he said no.

Singing unaccompanied is definitely not the norm and I think part of the process is seeing if they can keep in time to music etc and find out how adaptable they are .

My DS (did NYMT in 2013) also said he didn't remember anyone singing unaccompanied.
