BUMP

The date of the London w/e has been changed to the following w/e. Details here

The event will take place on Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 December 2012, at
Trinity Laban’s purpose built studios in South East London.

Trinity Laban, our Boys Only! partner for a third year running, are a
Centre for Advanced Training (CAT), an intensive training programme
for young people aged 13-18 who have exceptional talent and potential in
dance. Part of a national initiative funded by the Department for
Education, the CAT aims to identify young people with exceptional talent
and potential and provide them with the highest level of dance training
regardless of their personal circumstances.

As part of the CAT, Trinity Laban is committed to delivering an
extensive outreach programme in order to identify potential in younger
children and guide them towards appropriate dance training to nurture
their potential and help prepare them to audition for the CAT if they
wish. As such they are delighted to partner with the Royal Academy of
Dance to produce Boys Only!

The weekend in a nutshell
The weekend is suitable for boys aged 8-18 years, from beginners
through to more experienced dancers. Workshops in three different dance
styles: Ballet, Street and Contemporary dance will be taught by
experienced and inspirational male teachers from the Royal Academy of
Dance and Trinity Laban.

Students will be divided into three groups and work with boys of a
similar age and level of experience, taking classes in all three styles
over the two days. The weekend finale will provide an opportunity for
all the students to perform what they have learnt to a supportive
audience of parents and guardians.

thanks everso for posting - DS is going along to Laban's CAT taster day next year !
he isn't sure about contemporary and committing so much time to pure dance as opposed to MT, so it will be a good experience for him

I will have a look at these December days too :D :D

Riverdancefan it sounds ideal for your ds then. I think it would be worth doing in order to get him noticed. After ds did the Leeds one last year he was bombarded with the Northern Ballet CATs prospectuses and dates for the open days/auditions etc and I think I read somewhere that they actually took some boys from the weekend straight onto their associate scheme. You never know....

Hi sophiesocks.

Next year's course dates will probably be put on the website in, or after, December. We know a boy who has done the Hampshire one 2 years running and loved it. The individual booking forms don't usually get put on the website until a couple of months before the course and, as you can see, they frequently change the dates quite close to the event

Hi all
he absolutely loved it!!
There were some amazing boys there, high standard of ballet particularly and he learned so much, particularly that he needs to step his game up a little!!
I return he was able to help some of the boys unsure of street..it was real teamwork!!
I was so proud of him, they did a short piece based on the ballet Spartacus, the contemp was based around Olympic sports, really interesting concept and fantastic music devised by the tutor.
The street was fast - paced and clever.
He was one of the youngest in his group but not the youngest.. and I really saw him work hard and was suprised at what he could do today. His elegance has improved and height of jumps suprised me :D :D
He missed a reheasal for it but I really think it was worth it, he reconnected with his love of dance today, not just musical theate.
Laban is a wonderful place, airy, modern, and all involved in the weekend very supportive.
We will be back next year =D> =D> =D>

really well done to a lovely lad Jordan who got the summer school scholarship, a fab ballet dancer and a top lad !!!

It's really good to hear how it went riverdance. I'm so pleased he got alot out of it.

The Birmingham weekend in March is worth thinking about. It usually has a good turnout and high standard. Sadly it clashes with a show rehearsal on the saturday and a Hammond Associates day on the sunday so ds won't make it :(

Riverdancefan, your post has put a smile on my face ever since I read it. I have never met your DS (at least, I don't think I have...) but I am seeing him in my minds eye jumping, extending and having a ball. What a picture!

Go Riverdanceson! And to you too, Riverdancefan - what an inspiration you both are. =D> =D> =D>

 ah thank you :-D
I am like you all you wonderful Mums, just trying to give him fun, new friends and contacts , interesting experiences...and I must admit he was ...

"arrrgggh missing rehearsals? contemporary? do I havvveeee to go?"

no you DON'T have to go, but give it a try?

and he was so glad he did...the dance spark has re-ignited along with a bit of determination to improve..
Reality check for a lad who hardly ever gets to dance with other lads, especially in ballet ! \:D/
It was SO wonderful to see him link arms and dance with flair and pride, with fellow lads and see some strength and power shining through, I don't mean that in a sexist way, just makes such a difference when you have no boys in your classes.
I WISH I could have filmed it, maybe it will be on their website later..?
