Dd is always a bit reluctant to run through her festival solos (for memory sake not technique). I've never been too concerned about nagging her to do so because there's not enough space to dance it properly and she then can't time it right. So I'm happy to take funnygirls advice on this ;)
However getting her not to dance is an impossibility, she dances all the time. Particularly in the supermarket as the floors are too tempting!
What about covering some plywood with lino for a tapping surface?

If the room isn't too big, then it could be cost effective - but I'd probably put some insulation under the ply if you have a room below. If you only need a small bit, some vinyl would probably do - the proper stuff is just better on the legs.
