Dance summer schools SW London / Surrey

Post by Darmont »

Hi does anyone know of anywhere that does a dance Summer school in the London /Surrey areas?

Dd needs to learn how to pick up choreography and dance routines for musical theatre / panto etc. She is good at acting and singing but struggling with the dance routines.

Thanks!

How old is she?
Most vocational schools offer Summer Schools but am not sure of their closing dates for instance Laines, Bird, Urdang, Trinity Laban, etc.

My daughter is definitely an actor, then a singer, then a dancer. She struggles to pick up movements in the first place, i.e. at her group MT lessons she can not always 'see' how a move or transition is done, however she is often the only one who remembers the sequence/order e.t.c next week. Her execution may not be top notch to begin with but she is usually the first to master the whole routine. Some children seem to be able to mirror the teacher perfectly and repeat it immediately but then can not remember a thing next week.
Her ballet teacher (she has one-one lessons) is always astounded how much of a new routine she can take in in one lesson, so she teaches her a whole dance in a single lesson then works on perfecting the individual moves where as, many of her other pupils work on just a few steps each lesson. Each to his/her own! - she is much the same with the piano, so her brain must be wired to remember then perfect, where as mind is try to remember, give up on the perfect!

That's interesting Francesca's mum I have noticed how some kids pick it up very fast. My dd may be similar to yours it will be interesting to observe as she does more. She was in a show earlier in the year and after a few weeks of rehearsals she was great at the moves and fantastic in her performance (facial expressions / energy) and very watchable:) (several people commented so hopefully not just a biased mummy!)
She's not a natural dancer ( singing is best then acting) but I am hoping she will be able to improve enough to be able to compete with the more natural dancers. Hoping a summer school will give her more confidence and help her learn to follow:)
