Move it

Hi everyone,

My daughter has asked if she can go to move it next year.

It's a long way for us to go and she will only be 13 but I would be happy to take her if it's worthwhile and she would enjoy it.

Is it suitable for her age and will there be plenty of things for her to do - or is it aimed more at older teenagers who are looking for dance training when they leave school?

I'd be interested in any opinions as we don't know anybody who has been before.

Thank you :)

I won two tickets to see the Perform event next door. Hubby had a fit at the cost of the train but DD and I had a great day watching as many of the performances we could. Yes the stalls were very much aimed at young people looking for college courses but the performances included Spirit YPC, stage makeup, an amazing circus skills groups, and lots of colleges. It was really interesting to see how the standard of performance visibly improved with each year of maturity and experience, with a very high bar set at the start. You could do workshops too. My friend had a Move It ticket which allowed her to come to Perform too; she said that the one room and one stage was tiny compared to Move It, which had a lot going on all the time. I think you should go, how often do teens want to spend a fun day with their mum?

We have been the last few years and always enjoy it. Lots of performances to watch and all the mail colleges are there to chat to which my DD found really useful. I would definitely recommend going and if possible on a Friday as it is quieter.

I agree if she loves dance/performance she will really enjoy it - loads of stalls and college stands and performances from a lot of the colleges , I also agree try and go on the Friday as it gets very busy. I was lucky my dds school gave her authorised absence to attend as I said it was educational and she wouldn't be attending open days at local 6th form colleges ;) not sure if your school will do that as your dd is a little younger and probably not doing college options yet but lots of pupils get days out to represent the school at sport so worth a go

We went last year with 3 15 year olds who loved it! I think 13 will be fine but if they sign up for classes be aware that most are quite large and be prepared to get there early enough and stand their ground to get a spot at the front, otherwise it's much harder to see what you are supposed to be doing. My daughter did 7 the one day and 8 the second which was too many in retrospect. We will be a lot pickier when we go this time, choosing those run by colleges she would like to go to. It was a fantastic experience and well worth the money. We stayed for 2 nights and were exhausted. We also took the girls out of school and said it was to see an expo of dance colleges, which it is. The school didn't have a problem.
