Abbreviations For the Terminally Dim?

Post by igloobabe »

I'm really loving this site, but feel I'm going to have to ask - why do you call daughters dd's not d's, and sons ds's, and husbands dh's?

Also what does dada mean?

Sorry to be so dim.

Good question!

I understand the first d is for darling! (As in darling daughter). It's probably easier to read "ds" in a post than just "s".
It's suitably theatrical isn't it!?

DaDA stands for Dance and Drama Award. Here's a link to the details: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAn ... /index.htm

Some post 18 drama schools are funded like Universities but some are not. Some of those not funded like Universities have a number of DADA awards available to students which will provide the same sort of level of funding as EU students can get for University type places. Unfortunately, the number of DADAs available for each course is less than the number of places. (It's between 60-80%). Not getting a DADA means that the student would have to find the full fees (or other sources of funding).
