Youngsters staying overnight away from home

Post by Katymac »

DD wants to spend the weekends in London; studying on Saturday & Sunday. I think it's too much for her

She can't stay in a hotel (she will be 16 in a few weeks) or a hostel as I understand they are 18+

Does anyone have any innovative suggestions how we could do this - I would love to hear them

As I know she is auditioning for full time places for next year I think this is a brilliant way to ease her into living away from home. I applaud her =D>

Do you have any family or friends in London she could stay overnight with?

If not, I would perhaps research if there are any host families that would accommodate her, maybe members on here or the other forums you are a member of could help out, or what about friends from her associate scheme. I always have one of the boys from Dd's CAT scheme when they have intensive weekends/weeks as he lives too far away to commute.

Good luck :)

Try googling 'Homestays' . You should find information about host families.

Hope you find something that suits her - it's a big step, good luck!

The co-ordinator is looking for me

Homestay looks great - there is a family in the right area but it's £150 a night - <gulp>

I know - I was hoping for maybe £20-25 or even if they have children swopping a nights accommodation for babysitting (as I run a Nursery from home DD is very good with children - she has had to be  )

Really? £150 a night????? You can see why house prices near these schools are rocketting!

I keep fluctuating between:
1) my baby I can't let you do this
2) it's scarey but it'll be good practise for next year &
3) it'll be fine

She still seems a little young, why not go with her and treat yourselves to a girls weekend. :D You can still give her a little independence by letting her go around London on her own for some of the time. :D

I don't think I can afford a hotel & train fares for me every weekend; she comes to London for £2 - I'm an extra £20, never mind the hotel/hostel cost & food

She has been coming to London by herself since Easter; she stayed for a week in Feb without me but with family. I think this is the next step towards moving out of home next year

I think what you're doing is brilliant, Katymac!!

You are letting her build her independence in a very safe and measured way....so by the time she gets to full-time college your DD will be completely comfortable with it.....and you'll feel happier knowing you've equipped her to deal with all those possible eventualities!!

I applaud you!! =D> =D>

Two nights sorted 3 to go (until Christmas)

Homestay has thrown up a possible - but I need to be brave & get in touch
The college have found a Christian 'Hall of Residence' but it starts from 18
Other website have 2 possibles but we are exploring our mutual needs
A mum from a course is in the miidle of building work but might help after Christmas
Her dance teacher has found a Lodging again from 18
Someone has suggested a Boarding House that has children from the shows - which I am waiting to hear back from

We've actually sorted 4 nights out but 2 of those are for Auditions!! So the patchwork is growing
