What exactly does it mean when you have an audition with the casting assitant of a project, rather than the casting director?
is it the casting assistant who decides whether you get a recall? or does the casting director decide purely from the video tapes??

The casting assistant may weed people out but they won't be making final decisions. It probably depends on the project and the status of the assistant.

Some assistants are important members of the team who are trusted to make some decisions - others may simply be hired to put people on tape for others to view.

thank you pg! so does the casting assistant watch through the tapes with the casting director and give any kind of comments? or would feedback not be passed on?

I think it's impossible to know the answer to that :) . I can imagine some circumstances where that could happen, but I would think generally not. It depends what it's for and how many they're seeing etc and what arrangements the CD and director have decided upon.
