Casting amounts

Post by Knic »

Hi all, this is probably an impossible question. We are quite new to this and just wondering if what we are experiencing is normal for this industry. DD joined her agency just over 2 months ago, she has had a few self tape requests (booked 1 from these) and 1 actually face to face casting. For the last few weeks she has had nothing apart from an invite to audition for Matilda, which we didn’t proceed with.

Our agencies Facebook page posts updates and it seems that the same faces seem to always be going to castings and some look a similar age to dd. I am probably just reading too much into things, but is such quiet times normal? Dd is 10 so wondering if younger ages are busier?

Hi,that actually sounds relatively busy if it’s only been a couple of months.fab news on your dd booking a job!! We have been with our agency about a year and we have periods of none stop tapes and then nothing for months! It’s all dependent on if your dd fits the casting brief, they can be very choosy and even slightly too blonde/too pale etc can affect it. I’ve found it all comes at once and you feel non stop haha! Self tapes are usually used as the first audition stage now so there’s not as much rushing off to London etc. Having said all this we are relatively new too so can only comment on our experience :-) it’s a very crazy world haha x

Also forgot to say my dd is nearly ten and blue eyed/blonde hair which is extremely common and automatically puts the odds against her in comparison to a child/brief for a less common combination I have found (was actually warned this from a lot of agencies we met with) xx

Yes, I agree it's feast or famine, but I would say what you have had so far suggests that your dd is being put forward for things pretty regularly so that's good. You can always ask them what she has been put forward for if you are worried, but on the basis of what you say I wouldn't be too concerned.

If it stays very quiet for a long time we sometimes find a reasonably sensible reason to 'be in touch' just to remind our agent we are still there and keen. Perhaps inevitably it can be easy to forget some kids are on the books if new ones come along, so we occasionally jog their memory...

Well done booking that job. =D>

Thank you ladies, both replies are really helpful. Dd loves self-taping and enjoyed her casting so is constantly asking if I have had any emails. I always get excited if we have an email from the agency.

Like you mentioned, I try and find a reason to touch base with the agency just as a way to say ‘don’t forget us.’

When she had a spell of being busy it seemed to happen during the same week and so it was quite hectic. That was during the holidays though so maybe that’s a busier time x
