1st audition tips

Post by layboa »

Hey guys i've got my 1st audition on Wednesday and all i've been told is my audition will be 15 minutes in length and they will ask me to reenact my
favourite scene or monologue. The audition will be informal with the director and production team. How long do you think the monologue its self should be and any advice for a 1st timer. Its for a film. :D

Life is complex - some of it is real, some of it is imaginary.

I would suggest that your monologue should be no longer than 3 minutes. 2 minutes would be fine. As it's for film, try to choose something non "theatrical". That doesn't mean it has to be quiet, just that the language should be as natural and conversational as possible. Do you know whether they will be filming the audition piece? If they are filming it then you need to keep your performance very "real" and you don't need to project at all. Try to have a bubble round yourself while you do your speech, try to ignore the other people in the room and concentrate on the imaginary person you are talking to (and put them close to you in your imagination).

They will probably also have a short interview, so be prepared for the obvious (and dreadful) questions such as:
"What have you been doing recently?" and "Tell me a bit about yourself".
Be yourself, don't undersell yourself but don't feel that you have to impress. If you are open, honest, positive and friendly in your responses you won't go wrong! Good luck!
