IMDB - a few questions

Post by doris »

I was idly browsing the IMDB this morning and came to the page of a short film that dd was an extra in last summer (with a few other NAPM children). We got sent the DVD a while ago and my dd only appears has a blur in a classroom scene (I only know its her because of her rucksack!) so you cannot even distinguish her face. Anyhow, the credits on the DVD name all the children who were extras, which was a nice thought by the production company I thought.

To get to the point of my posting, much to my surprise, the IMDB page for the film has now got my dd's name and her date of birth as listed in the cast. However there are no other extras named, only the principle actors.

Q1 - How would this happen? Why would the production company add my dd's name but not any of the other extras? Could dd's agent have added it? (I suppose I should ask them)
Q2 - Now that dd has a IMDB profile, is it worth adding anything like photos or other credits? How would I do this (via agent?)
Q3 - dd's page is "up 600% in popularity since last week" :lol: :lol: NB that is not me clicking it 600 times!!! - how does this work- what does it mean by popularity - is it just random people clicking her page (she is the 9th person with that name on IMDB so probably is being confused with someone else)

The film seems to be doing quite well - it was screened at Cannes and has been doing the rounds of various film festivals in N America.

The thing about IMDB is that there is no central person who organises it - if it is only a short film then most of the IMDB information will probably have been put on by the people who made the film. So to answer your questions;
1) It may have been put up by your agent if your agent has an IMDB Pro account, or it may just be an anomaly and the producers or whoever decided to put her up for whatever reason.
2) To put up photos you need an IMDB Pro account (which you have to pay for) but if your agent has one then she might be able to do it.
3) Sorry to burst your bubble, but the popularity thing doesn't really have anything to do with anything! It's not to do with how many people have clicked on her page, but about how quickly her information has grown. If the film was only put up recently then a few people may have rated the film well recently, and as she is connected with that film her rating will have gone up. It's probably 600% because she would have started at 0% and so obviously a few ratings of the film makes a big difference when added to 0% if you get what I mean...

Anyway I hope that helps. I am in no way a pro about this (so if someone realises that I am wrong please correct me!) I just happen to spend way too much time on IMDB! :D

And congrats to you and your DD for the success of the film; it being shown at Cannes is pretty major!

IMBD is also used by casting director to see if you where in a certin film or t.v. program and not a extra as extras do not get credits, I have talked to producers who have goolged my ds to see what he has done and they do check that you did have that lead role in that film, so lying is ok untill you get further down the line then cd and producers will check. Dont think agents put things on IMBD dont have to as there are people who look at all the credits on all films tv programs and put them on sad people nothing else to do but good for us. It cost $124.95 a month which works out at $10.41 or $15.95 a month not sure what that is in £ some one on here might be able to tell you. It has gone up a lot since last year not sure if I will pay this year a lot of money just to have photo on a site cd will still be able to see the parts you have been credited for you can have another cv on there but then most people have that on Spotlight, agents site, and places like Kids Casting Call Pro. There is a star meater where the peolpe who have been viewed the most are put on a page but then if yr child has not done much and they have the same starmeater as Brad Pit then cd will gess that you your family and friends have been sitting at pc all day and all night that is unless u have just been credited for one of the Harry Potter films then cd will no it is genuine

Many thanks Aliceinwonderinc and Irishdancer, that's really helpful.

Don't worry I didn't have a bubble to burst about dd's "popularity" :lol: :lol:

I think Irishdancer you are right that maybe someone with more time than sense has got hold of the film end-credits and put dd name on imdb. It definitely wasn't her agent and I just can't see why the production company would have bothered.

I have heard of actors getting their fanbase to click on their imdb profile to try and get the starmeter rating up. :lol:
