York Dance schools

Post by amanda »

Hello all,
I haven't been around for a while but wondered if anyone on here could help me.
DD is looking for a new dance school this summer - logistics are such that she won't be able to get to her lovely old dance school from September.
She is 16, currently IDTA G6 ballet, G4 Tap, G4 Jazz and lots of experience in Freestyle, Street, R&R and Latin.
As she wants to apply for MT courses at 18 we are looking for a school that combines technical quality in Ballet, tap and jazz with a more fast, fun, fitness approach to street. Think a move away from IDTA at this stage may be wise in order to sharpen up technique.
Anyone have any suggestions of schools to try?

Hi Amanda,
Is Wakefield too far? Are you looking for central York? I know we have friends who dance there...
I'll ask around :D

Hello there, good to hear from you. :D
DD will be going to York college so we were hoping that she could go straight from college independently. Central or south of York would be ideal.
To be honest it will be quite a wrench to leave her old dance school which she has attended since she was about 6. :(

Hi Amanada, probably the easiest for her to get to is Red Shoes. One long straight road from York College - which is along Tadcaster Road, The Mount, Blossom Street, then left round towards the station. Red Shoes is on the left just before York Station. They have lots of different classes, definitely worth looking them up. Good luck! :D

Full address - Red Shoes Dance Studio, Queen Street, York Tel 01904 693938. There are lots of buses running from York College into York City Centre. I've just had a quick look trying to find their website, appears to be a few coming up under 'Red Shoes'. If you need any further info, happy for you to PM me :D
