I went to look at Redroofs a few years ago as a possible school for my daughter.

Her interest was in dance and I found that the level was extremely low. I spoke to one girl who told me that she was the highest grade out of all the girls in her year and that was several grades below my younger daughter. Also, even the new studios were incredible small. The academics were very limited and the facilities for this very ramshackle.

The school did, however, have a lovely homely feel to it and everyone I spoke to was lovely.

I think that it depends what your objective is. As a fun school for a child that loves the arts but is perhaps not able to obtain a place in a more prestigious school, then I think it would be great. Certainly for the serious dancer, I would not recommend it. I do not know about the drama side other than that it seems to have a good reputation and students do get castings.

Please bear in mind that things may have changed since I was there!

Peopleshould be more careful about their postings. I am a parent of a pupil at RR and havebeen for three years. My daughter takes regulardance exams with ISTD and RAD and has several distinctions. The facilities include large sprung mirrored studios. My daughter went back to schoolyesterday and told me (Her words) "My school just never stops aazing me. I just love it I love it." They have adance squad, atouring choir, do loads of performances. I think whoever posted this post above probably didnt get offered a place =D>

to be honest my son is not a dancer but really enjoys acting, he is very bright and really needs to be challenged academically, hopefully he will be able to go for a taster day and see what he thinks of it :)

Hotpotato, funnygirl was simply posting her view. You were very quick to jump in, please be awarethat this forum is simply an expression of views and all views are valid unless they are slanderous or offensive and I thought the post was fair and simply a personal view and declares its a view formed a few years ago.

Thank you, Titania, for standing up for me.

For those suggesting that I posted with the taste of sour grapes in my mouth, I would like to confirm that my child did not even apply to Redroofs because of the opinion that I formed when I visited without her.

I did not mean to offend and all views are relative; It was a fact that at the time, the child who claimed to be studying the highest grade in the school was at a lower grade than my daughter. This does not mean that she or the school were no good, simply that the school would not have been challenging enough for my child or possibly any other who wants a career as a professional dancer. Equally, as I have seen several dance schools with much larger studios, the ones at Redroofs are, in my opinion, too small for the serious study of dance.

I think it is great that the school offers taster days - that way, prospective students and their families can make a judgement based on personal experience. Just because it wasn't right for us doesn't mean that it will not be right for others!

You must be looking for a very big studio! There is a huge dance studio that they built about three years ago. It has sprung Harlequin flooring fixed barres, air conditioning and looks out onto the garden. The school has three other good size studios and the two main studios are all big enough to assemble 150 people in them. Maybe you visited before 2007. It's always possible! I repeat my daughter is doing very well indeed at thisschool and I really do think your comments are unnecessary. The teaching is the best you'll get.

Hotpotato,
I think funnygirl was extremely respectful in her posting. It was her opinion and she supported it with clear facts, stating that things might have change at the school since she visited and leaving that open to further comments, actually welcoming more update information. Your posting is very useful because give a more recent view of the school, on the other hand I am not sure that you do to the school any favour in showing such 'unnecessary' bad temper. [-X
