@pg when you say "we didn't have opportunity to practice screen acting" ( sorry I don't know how to quote yet! ) .... Did you go to drama school then ?/ or just figure of speech?
Oh sorry I ment my daughter isn't doing much improvisation at her current school - yes I'm sure drama schools do a lot of it!
" drama schools should be about doing it not studying it" - completely 100 per cent agree with that!

@selina2 we looked in to arts ed last year actually for their 2 year musical theatre b tec course , didn't know about their drama course , will look in to it - we both indeed liked arts ed when looking round the school!

@welshmum sorry what school is "alra" not to sure I've heard of that one ? Is it in the UK or US?

Yes, I went to drama school at the grand old age of 47! I'd wanted to go when I was much younger, but was steered in an academic direction instead. I worked on the fringes of the profession in my forties and then took the plunge and applied (at my daughter's urging) at 47. My son went to RADA the same year - though he did a three year course and I did the one year course at Oxford School of Drama. I am very glad I went, though I can't say I've made any impact on Hollywood or the West End

I'm not an expert in any way (despite my long posts on NAPM ) but I do have direct experience of the profession. Like lots of actors struggling to make a living, I've made plenty of mistakes along the way - so I like to point out risks and scams too wherever I see them because it's certainly a profession where it's easier to spend money than make it!
