I am looking for an agency in Yorkshire I was wondering if anyone knew any reputable agencies. I am 16 years old and live in North Yorkshire, I would like to go into TV or Film as that is what my acting classes are specifically designed for, however I do like performing plays and I perform plays at school.

Hi Betsey

To be honest, I don't think there are many agencies in Yorkshire! However, it doesn't really matter where your agency is based, as the likelihood is you will have to travel to auditions usually in London but DD has had several this year in Manchester at Media City. There are LOTS of threads about agencies so the board so do have a good read through them. The most important things to remember about choosing an agency is that they should not have lots of people who look like you on their books, they should always want to meet with you/see you perform before they take you onto their books and you should NEVER pay to join an agency, they will take commission from any money you earn.

I think many of the agencies in Yorkshire are attached to part-time stage schools and attending lessons there is one of the requirements of being with the agency. we know people who are with or have been with: Scala in Leeds, they've had lots of success with stage, TV and film work there's also Rebel (in Leeds) Northern Film and Drama (Castleford I think) and Stage 84 (outside Bradford) and Tonicha Wade (ex Emmerdale) has started an agency and stage school in Collingham outside Wetherby, I think all of them have had people on Emmerdale, Waterloo Road and Yorkshire filmed BBC/ITV series like Marchlands, South Riding etc.
I also heard that the Mark Jermin agency were recently looking for Northern talent...
So I suppose it depends on where you are, what you're looking for and whether you're happy to pay for lessons at a new school
