show reel

Post by ruby95 »

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a show reel made. I have a couple of good things to put in it but most of them are 'period' pieces. I filmed an independent feature film last summer which is contemporary so I would love to include a few scenes from that but it is still in post-production. The director of this film is really approachable and friendly and has kept in contact with me and the other actors via twitter and email so do you think it would be acceptable for me to email him, say I am making a show reel and ask when I could get hold of some of my scenes or is this too pushy/ unprofessional?

Thanks for any advice.

I wouls say go for it, it can't hurt to ask - especially if you gave your time for free! Good luck with your show reel and don't forget to post a copy on here! :D

I'm in the middle of producing one at the moment - but getting permission for using other people who are in some clips is frustratingly difficult. In 5 weeks, I've not had one extra clip we want to use released. Some of the other people are being really difficult about it, despite being friendly on the surface, their agents suddenly pop up and say no. Some of the material was provided, but lots of good stuff was not!

There is no harm at all in asking, but be prepared for the answer to be "sorry, not yet". It does depend where abouts in post-production it is, how big the team is/ how they feel about releasing footage before its premiere etc. I certainly don't think it's pushy or unprofessional to ask - it might be relatively easy for them to provide some footage - but you may just have to wait it out!

Ah, those Directors are often loathe to part with their film for a long long time. But its your right to ask.

Thank you so much everyone.

The director replied. He was lovely about it and said he can give me the clips in about a month. Result! :D
