Singing Auditions

Post by spinachi40 »

Wondering if anyone can help me? My DS loves to sing but I'm not sure what to do to help him from here. He has a youtube channel, and entered Open Mic UK last year and got through to the final, is there anything else I can do to help him? Does anyone know of any other reputable auditions/competitions he can enter. Unfortunately we're not London based but are willing to travel.

He certainly is a little star =D> =D> Unfortunately 13 - 15 is a real difficult time for singers and performers, not cute enough for the ohhhh factor and their voices arent mature enought for the adult section. Get as much performance experience and maybe a good singing teacher to help him along the way. Good luck his time will come . ;)

I would also suggest getting as much experience as he can. Often there are charity show etc who would like his services. Look at local theatres for adverts for these, then get in touch with organisers. Performing in front of an audience when ever he can will be invaluable - my DD did all sorts, treated all events professionally and gained a lot.

Thank you for your guidance and great comments, it's difficult to know what to do with him at this age. He has become quite well known around the local area through school concerts, amateur productions and with Open Mic UK we had to court the local press somewhat but it's how to get out to the wider audience. He does have a great singing teacher but it's mostly Musical Theatre and he wants to sing really update stuff, funny ol' thing

He's very good, isn't he?! =D> =D> =D>

Have you tried to get him on stage at pop and rock festivals? They have lots of stage time to fill. If you're quick you might just get him some opportunities through the summer. If you're too late for this year at least you will have made contact with the organisers for next year.

Does he write any of his own stuff? My girls have just made a start on this and it's great fun for them, so he might enjoy extending his repertoire that way too.

Good luck - let is know how he gets on, it will be good to see how he develops as he certainly has the talent

=D> =D> Thanks Flosmum, hadn't thought of that. It's an avenue definitely worth exploring. He hasn't thought about writing his own stuff at all, but I have a slightly older daughter who loves writing poetry so maybe she could have a go for him!
