Singing lessons - Stockport / Manchester

Post by Littlemum »

Hello all
This is my first posting to NAPM and I'm hoping you can give me some advice. I've been reading the forum for a while now - my ds (12) has had a few acting parts this year and loves it more every day - but is going to audition for musical theatre soon and his agent has suggested getting a few singing lessons quickly to give him a boost (he's always been in choirs but not had 1-2-1 tuition). Can anyone recommend a good singing teacher (for natural voice) in our area (Stockport / Manchester / Cheshire) who might be able to help? Hope this is a reasonable question to ask and thanks in advance for reading. :D

If it's not too far for you, check out the Macclesfield Music Centre: http://maccmusiccentre.org.uk/

DD had some singing lessons there to help with her drama school auditions and DS learns sax. Great set up and good teachers ... if you can;t make it they may be able to recommend a private teacher in the area.

My dh may be able to see people in Macclesfield. However he doesn't usually teach under 16's.

Thank you for your help, I am so glad I asked! I am only after a few lessons for him at the moment (can't see how we could fit in another commitment, sure you know where I'm coming from there!) to give him some tips / feedback. His focus is acting not singing, but he does want to give this audition a go and he does have good pitch and a real interest in music, plays instruments too. So if you have any more details about whether you think your dh might be able to see him or not for a few lessons and where, I would certainly be interested. I hope it's not 'out of order' to ask these sorts of questions! We are Stockport based - so Macclesfield, Knutsford etc are all possibilities. However I know that teachers are (of course) fully subscribed and can find it difficult to accommodate requests like this one, so I understand if I can't get anything sorted for him. Thanks to both of you for your replies, I am very grateful.

Hello hello, I'm a singing teacher in Marple, near Stockport! I wish I'd seen this post sooner but I've only just come back to teaching singing after maternity leave. My background is in teaching adults and children drawing on multi-disciplinary vocal coaching techniques. I love teaching children and have a CRB check, having worked in primary schools across Manchester on behalf of the national SingUp programme. Until my maternity leave in 2012 I was the North West Director of a national Singing School called "The Courage to Sing" and I was the Musical Director and founder of Manchester's "Courage to Sing Choir". You can see me in action on Youtube - just type in Mags Lowe.

I would love to hear from any parents looking for a warm, friendly, non-judgemental vocal coach for their child. I coach in all contemporary, non-classical styles of music. I can help your child to find their voice, build their confidence and prepare for whatever singing challenges their performing arts path produces. We focus on breathing, pitch, interpretation, singing for actors, extending range, power, control, dynamics, warming-up, cooling-down, keeping the voice healthy.... I'm a natural voice practitioner, which means I use breath and bodywork to release the natural voice and all the emotions it can express - singing is our birthright and it's my honour to guide people to release and explore their singing voices.

My website is http://www.singinguk.co.uk and Singing With Confidence on Facebook.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Mags

Interesting post. I run a children's theatre school not that far from you and my dh is an Estill CMT. However he doesn't teach children except to help me out occasionally so its always good to know who is around. He teaches mostly in vocational colleges.

He knows DC by the way.

I occasionally need cover singing teachers if you are interested in PM ing your cv. I'm in your area quite a bit at the moment as dd is rehearsing for a show in Stockport.
