I often have stayed in university halls of residence out of tern time. Very reasonable and clean rooms etc. I did this often when the kids were younger and hotels too expensive

I think most of the London Unis do this in holiday time

I've stayed in James Lighthill as a student and Schafer House over the summer. Very reasonably priced and roomy for central London. The kitchen facilities are great too.
