Newbie advice please

Post by Polkadottymummy »

Hi All,

I'm not entirely sure I am in the right place, but if not - hoping you can point me in the right direction of a forum that would help answer some questions for a complete newbie.

My 3 month old has just been accepted by Bonnie and Betty on to their books, which is incredibly exciting in the first place (I realise this is just a small hurdle), but really want to know - what happens next?

What happens in castings (TV and Modelling?), how long are they, what do kids wear? Do you all line up outaside and they call you in one by one?! I literally know nothing about it.

Also - if she likes this going forward and wants to continue, what is a good path to continue on? Singing lessons, dance, a particular performing arts school? I feel a bit lost and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance,

PDM :D

your dd is 3 months, I wouldn't worry about performing arts schools just yet , but admire your forward thinking
it's a bit like having a 3 month old who can sit up and looking to get him into Harvard !!!!

Clothes - you just put them in something that they're comfortable in - you could ask your agent if they would contact you if they ever are required to be wearing anything specific , but I doubt any agent would for a 3 month old.Plain and no motifs/writing on clothing would be best rule of thumb.
Castings - you will be given a time slot - take everything you need to keep your baby comfortable, in case there's a wait ; with babies it's about how they are infront of camera, can they sit still, and are easy to work with, and it's about if they have right look for the job, so it would be in and out pretty much for castings for modelling, and there are strict guidelines that casting directors adhere to for babies working eg working hours.
Progression - I'd wait and see whether you're baby is suitable for these things ; you don't mind the process ; you don't mind short notice and travel to castings ; and if your baby gets any jobs - and take it from there
Others on here with babys who have recently been involved in tv modelling work, I'm sure can enlighten you further - congratulations and good luck !

Welcome to NAPM.

Genevieve has beaten me to it - but here's my take on it in any case:

As your little one is 3 months, I really don't think you need to be worrying about classes yet! I should ask those questions when you find out what she likes.

In terms of what happens next: did B&B not give you an idea?

Here's what will probably happen: if someone sees a photo of your little one and likes it, then they will call you in for a casting. Your agent will give you the details of time and place and who you will meet - and some details of what the job is. At this age it will mostly be photoshoots/commercials I should think. You will go to a casting venue, fill in a form, meet someone like a Casting Director, have a photo taken and then go away again - that's how it normally happens anyway. These casting are often busy and crowded - but not always. Sometimes they run over time. They are usually very quick (i.e. the time you spend in the room is short - if they are running over, you might be at the venue for a while).

What to wear: depends on the casting. Your agent will probably advise, or you will have an idea from the casting/job description.

After that you go home - and often hear nothing more. If it's a no, you are often not told. If it's a yes or a maybe, your agent will let you know!

I hope some of that is helpful.
