How to make a documentary??

Post by lollypop »

Hello, looking for some tips here! DS has decided he wants to make a short documentary. My technology skills barely extend to pressing record on my phone camera. Is there a really simple package where I can upload a short amount of footage (from my phone), chop it into segments and then add in some images/ graphics/ whatever he envisages through it? This is waaaaayyy beyond me! :? The things we do to support our kids. thanks v much

IPhone iMovie is really good for that sort of thing, my cousins son in LA used it for the opening morning of one of the iPhone or iPads in LA it was even on the news over there it was really good quality.

Windows Movie Maker is very intuitive and has all the help facilities that you'd expect of a windows product. If you have a PC with windows on it, you probably have Movie Maker installed already.

If you are more adventurous, Adobe has a 30 day free trial on their products, including Adobe Pro and Photoshop. I was playing with it last weekend (trying to catch up with my 9 year old's editing skills!) and the tutorials are very easy to follow. I managed to edit a small clip into a GIF.

Hope this helps.

Agree with Fosmum, Windows Movie Maker coud be a good start. Eldest DD - 13 - had 3 lessons at school where they were shown how to use it and have a bit of a play on it. When they were asked to do a school project on the effects of exercise she decided to do a little film using 10 year old sister and our fairly old camera, then sat for a couple of hours editing with no help required from the rest of us. She has just handed it in at school this week, via Googledrive because of issues about personal USBs etc not being allowed on site.

Hope your DS has lots of fun with his project!
