Agencies North of the Border ...help

Post by Minnie2013 »

My daughter was with an agent who we have recently left (for several reasons), I am trying to find her new representations but really am unsure what to do. Her youth theatre leader has recommended trying to get an agent who deals with a small amount of adults and children. So far the ones we have contacted take on very few children. Scream management have offered to meet her and Real People in Glasgow. Has anyone had much experience of these agencies, looking through the forums Scream have been mentioned quite a bit. We are based in Lothian. Many thanks, Min

My Ds is with Scream. They are very friendly and have got DS a lot of work including his latest role in a Disney Channel pilot. They do charge for workshops (about £15) and the usual photos, Spotlight etc. On the down side they can be a bit disorganised on the admin side and staff change frequently. I suspect this is the case with many agencies though (staffed, as they are, by creative types ;) ) and our key contact has been the same for 4 years. I know some people object to the workshop fees but I see the point of regularly checking on your clients and it's not a huge expense.

When I was looking for a Northern agent I found that many insisted that you attend their theatre school - scream do not.

Hope that helps x

Thank you for the reply, she does attend a youth theatre and has since she was 5, they are amazing and have put some brilliant opportunities her way so I would not move her.
Scream mentioned an initial workshop where they decide which children they accept but did not mention future ones. How often do the children have to attend?

I think it's twice a year. TBH my DS hasn't been for a while as he's been too busy with work - also his agent was able to come see him on stage at Xmas. I can see the sense in needing to regularly see kids who change and develop. Scream only represent children and young people. Good Luck x

Hello, my dd is 16 and she is with scream. She has only been represented by then for a few months and already we think they are fabulous :D They are very easy to contact and so friendly, so we always feel at ease when getting in touch with them. Dd also came from a different agent and they were great with swapping stuff over. They explained everything in detail when the offer for representation came, and they supply you with a "welcome pack" which explains in detail everything you need to know, from who to get in touch with, to certain words that you might hear on a set mean. Being based in the midlands we can sometimes feel out of the whole acting scene however scream are great at looking for and encouraging us to look for as many projects around our area as well as the usual London/Manchester stuff. They also support dd finding work for herself which I know quite a few agents object to.
Dd said that the initial workshop was very fun, a bit of a get to know you, and then some script work. She's off to the update workshop next month so not sure what to expect :)
We could not be happier with Scream! :D

Good luck with your decision making, and let us know how you get on!
