She loved it but it turned out to be a waiting list place on their pre-professional course; so......

Well dd did her first audition yesterday at Urdang - loved the day, absolutely knackered and doesn't think it went very well - ever the optomist!! Whatever the outcome it will have been a valuable experience of what is expected :)

It's good to be balanced and honest about your performance. Also makes either outcome better to deal with. Saying that I'm sure she was fab. Did she like the people and the environment? Everything crossed xx

Yes she did like it and the people were nice although the majority were 18+. I have slight reservations over the size of the year group - 150 in each year although it wasn't clear how much Intergration there was between foundation diploma and degree? Will keep you posted x

Can anyone clarify the Urdang courses? The Diploma does appear to be different to the degree and unfortunately more appealing as presumably the degree can be partly funded by Student loan and the diploma can't.

Grrr! It is time they cleared up the inequalities in funding. I am terrified that my dd will work her backside off to earn a place and that she wont be able to take it up because we earn either too much or too little, ](*,)

You're right - for the degree you can access the student loan system. For the diploma funding is through a DaDA or an Urdang Scholarship ....... or unfortunately no funding.

Its obviously an important consideration......also worth looking at the courses themselves. The former has more time for contextual academic studies- the latter has greater flexibility for years 2 and 3 in which areas to concentrate your practical training. (Ie the vocational training) .The students are in different cohorts with their own timetables. The website explains the options but do try to get to an open day if you can - that really really helped us.

You can of course apply for both.

Hope that helps a little ..... although the funding of performing arts ( or lack of it) will never really make sense!

Brilliant!! :D :D Daughter of our local dance shop owner started at Millenium in September on a DaDa, absolutely loves it, living with a host family, really nice small year group - only 45. Now you have decisions to make/think about - good luck - i'm sure you'll need a spreadsheet! xxx

Well done Katy Mac! I've been brave and posted on the main forum! I can't remember when we had to say no to Millennium by last year as we said yes to start with to see if she would get a dada but we couldn't risk being liable for the whole fees when we knew we couldn't afford it. I have heard of people being offered dadas in September but of course then you have to have decided to go there anyway. I'm sure dd will remember. 2 chances of a dada can't be bad though! Can't work out how to add a smiley face!!!

Congratulations!

Millenium was DS first audition so I went with him. DS really liked it - had a great atmosphere and feel. I loved the fact that at the end of the day the Directors already knew peoples names.

All the very best of luck with the next stage.

Hello Katymac,
Massive congratulations to your DD. Do you think that she learned how to play the auditions game as she gained experience? Her results seemed to suddenly come good at the end! \:D/ =D>
I really hope that she gets her dada.
