Investigated this but DD is 18+ so didn't work out as worth it!! But VERY useful for 16+ students!

going up the tube line would be a really good idea - as mentioned, kingsbury, queensbury, canons park, even stanmore - or hendon, colindale, burnt oak, edgware

the trick would be to be a safe walk from the tube station (for late nights) anywhere along the jubilee line or the belsize park branch of the northern line (i see a couple of posts suggesting mill hill - that would work, but would need a bus journey from burnt oak - so maybe having a good look at the tfl website for bus maps as well as tube ones)

As always I have been overwhelmed by the help and advice from members - thanks everyone :D

Going up tomorrow - exciting times. DD was going to go on her own, but Central sent her an email about the day saying it is sometimes helpful if there is a parent on hand to sign as guarantors and for deposits etc. However, I have been given strict instructions as to what to do (little as possible) say (ditto) and behave (no loud laughing etc).

Will let you know how we get on.

Glad I'm not the only one who gets told off for laughing too loudly when out in public with the kids! Hope you manage to get everything sorted!

You know if you buy your rail tickets online before 6 p.m. you will get them cheaper but you have to specify which train time you will be catching. Let me know if you need help. Good luck.

Well the good news is that DD has found 3 other girls who are all lovely to share with :D :D . They really "clicked", spent about 3 hours together and have "talked" on facebook and she is very hopeful it will work out with them.

The bad news is that they still don't have anywhere to live :( . Many of the places couldn't be viewed yesterday - peole still in them etc - though they have got some addresses and are all going up again next week to look at some of them.

So althoigh yesterday wasn't a total success, I feel the hardest thing was achieved. DD was really worried she either wouldn't get in a "group" or that she wouldn't connect with anyone. So I am hopeful she will get a property, perhaps not right now; so glad she has found kindred spririts :) . The event was orgaised very well, and was quite enjoyable. You will be pleased that I behaved myself, didn't "interfere", laugh loudly or ask embarrassing questions ;) ;)

It was a long day though - on the way back I had to change in the services to go to our Sixth Form prom (it was a bit like superman - I went into a cubicle in jeans and t shirt, emerged in a posh frock, heels and makeup    Was dropped off there and got in at 12.30 pm

Thanks again to everyone - when she gets up I will say what areas she is looking at next week - think one might be Willesden??? Another Temple Fortune?? But may be wrong.

Both nice areas Temple fortune is one bus all the way from golders green and is not far. Its a nice area full of jewish deli's that do great baegals on Sundays. Willesden is more central, but turns less safe very quickly.

Glad you had a good day yesterday WM - it must have been difficult to stand back and keep quiet  but gald to hear she has made some friends, that would have been my main worry   At least with four of them looking together for accomodation it will make it much easier! Hope there was no one left at the end that no one wanted to pair up with

the BrondesburyPark end of Willesden is fine, but not the Neasden end in my opinion.
Temple Fortune is much safer bet..(and towards Finchley central area) Yyou can get number of buses from there and Golders Green straight to Swiss Cottage direct - easy journey.

Big thank you to everyone who gave me advice. DD now has a flat on Finchley Road, up past O2 centre, on the "border" between West Hampstead and Cricklewood. The previous tenants were 3 girls at Central who stayed there for 3 years, so fingers crossed it all works out OK :D :D . Feel a lot happiet now.

Howver, my eldest DD is off to Madrid in 3 weeks with nowhere to live    . So one down, one to go :D
