Thanks for that Caroline and Amanda, Well, it is certainly nice to hear there are others who felt they did really well at Arts Ed only to get the dreaded 'pre-printed rejection letter' :(

Interesting to think it may be due to putting together a cast for their upcoming productions during training there - that actually makes sense. My DD is VERY blonde and she thought it was all the brunettes getting through! and without sounding mean, she noticed some getting through to recall couldn't dance all that well, but then Arts Ed is renouned for singing. I guess we'll never know. What a shame you can't get feedback!

I do feel so proud of her for being so talented and not letting the rejection beat her down :)

I treated her and her boyfriend to see 'West Side Story' playing at our local theatre last night, she rang me 'buzzing' saying how amazing the actors were - she waited backstage to talk to them, dying to know where they all trained! lol. It is definately in her blood, she'll get there in the end. :)

By the way, they were from Arts Ed, Mountview and GSA (the ones she was agog over, anyway) If this show tours near you, it does sound amazing.

Having spoken to my ds, he says that there is actually no way that they are preselecting for future shows at the audition stage as they don't actually chose the shows until the students are in their second year. However, he did feel that the shows were possibly chosen according to those in the year. It is a very unfair world and with just a 1 or 2% chance of getting through there must be some horrendous decision making going on (sure there were not that many when ds auditioned). I have no idea why they audition so many with such ridiculous odds. Anybody who has auditioned should be very proud of themselves.

Why do they audition so many? £30 - £50 per head?!!!

Yes, I imagine the colleges make vast amounts of funds from auditions. The flip side is that the majority of colleges are £35 and good experience for our children.

Wow - just did the sums...Arts Ed had approx 120 auditionees last week for DD auditions = £4,200!! Woa! Multiply that by the amount of audition days, I would hazard a guess that there would be a total of 25 days = £112,500 revenue for the college.

My DD had her Arts Ed audition yesterday, really enjoyed the dance and felt it went really well... Then sang Summertime, in the right key for her voice, and was really pleased with herself, until, they said songs shouldn't be messed with and asked her to sing it in it's original key (almost operatic!!!) she then, like many others on here, got the dreaded letter.... Really feel for all these kids, they do say to bring the sheet music in the correct key for their voice not the original key!!!! Hey ho, onwards and upwards only 3 more to go through!!!!

Hi Nicnats,

I'm really sorry for your DD, I don't know how our kids can keep taking the rejection, but i guess that is the industry they are in.

My DD has 7 more auditions to go, Cambridge is on Monday. Fingers crossed, she auditioned last year there and was offered foundation, mainly she thinks because her dance wasn't up to the standards of some of the other girls auditioning.

Fingers crossed for both our DDs that they'll get offered a place where they want to go.

DD1 has been offered a recall for degree / diploma place at Urdang. She needs a degree place as we don't qualify for a DADa but it costs £75 for the bursary audition (the bursary is to pay the additional £3000 of fees they didn't tell us about as the fees are £12k). Nowhere does it mention you have to pay this fee, on top of the £35 for the original audition! :x

I have told DD1 to think very carefully whether it is worth attending as she has been lucky enough to been offered a degree place at Bird.
