I don't know for certain, but I think it is very likely that an accredited course, offering practical training (rather than academic) - see:www.ncdt.co.uk for details - will choose to bend the rules if they see a student they think is perfect for their course. The schools compete for the best students as well as students competing for the best schools. A drama school will definitely not base their judgement of "best" on A level results. A good education is never wasted and will be appreciated by drama schools but the employers in the profession are never going to ask about A level results and are not interested in whether or not someone has a degree ( employers outwith the profession will be, of course, I'm not saying it's irrelevant) and the accredited courses are training their students for the profession - that's what they set out to do. Most have only gone down the University/degree route because of funding.

I know that both RADA and OSD take students regardless of A level results. Places are frequently offered before any results are known. OSD is DaDA funded - so is not tied to any Uni criteria - but RADA is maintained funding.

I seem to recall at the Man Met open day I went to with DD that they said they 'preferred' you to have passed whatever course you were on ... I think they said they like two Cs at A level. I know that's what DD was asked to get for LIPA too ... I do hope he hears soon!

Is everyone aware that you can gain ucas points for passing dance exams? My daughter didnt do her a levels but has been informed she has enough ucas points to do degree course at college?

Would this be correct?

I think it depends on the exam board and the grade ... I know you get UCAS points for ABRSM music exams from Grade 6 up. I do think that for courses you audition for, UCAS points etc are much less important as if they like you they will just give you an unconditional offer or a very low offer!

Current UCAS points for a wide range of different qualifications are summarised here: http://ucas.com/students/ucas_tariff/ta ... les/#dance

Yes you definitely get UCAS points for dance exams - my daughter had ISTD tap and modern and RAD ballet on hers as well as the music exams. It all helps!

Balletmummy - it depends on each individual school or college unfortunately and usually they are not awarded until all auditions have been completed for that particular school. It takes quite a few weeks until everything is settled not just for the awarding of DADAs but the fact that some people are awarded more than one and so turn one or more down, meaning someone off a waiting list will then be offered the award, which can obviously also have a knock on effect. Last year for DD and her friends some got their DADAs end of March and some not until the end of May. So

Thanks for that Showtunes, ds knows that one of the boys he got to know at the recall heard on Friday and sadly it was a no and someone else apparently heard over a week ago got a yes, so not sure if it will be good news for ds, heres hoping but he's now looking to his Bristol Old Vic audition this Friday.

Hi all.

Heard today that dd is on the reserve list at the Arden. Not sure what to expect now as it didn't say how far up the list she was etc. Think I will ring them tomorrow to ask a few details. I know we have till 8th May to accept/decline her offer at chi uni. So whiles its not a no it's not a yes either.
Anyone with any experience of being on a reserve list?

Congratulations to your dd. :D =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> > i am so pleased for you and her.
She heard very quickly didnt she? Thats what they should all be like so they can get it out of their system and make plans if its a yes and move on if its a no. Is Ardern her preferred choice? It makes it very difficult doesnt it being on a reserve list as its a big decision whether to give up a confirmed place in the hope of getting off the reserve list. it doesnt get any easier does it.

My DD is at GSA at the weekend so she will probably have a good idea next week what she will be doing September as its her last one and I think they more or less find out on the day as they keep some back to interview .So if she doesnt get an interview I would presume it is pretty much a no. A friend of hers went for a recall last week. There were 24 and they apparently did a 2 and a half hour dance workshop, did their songs and monologues so it was quite a full day as she was there from 8.30 to 4pm and they kept back 4 to interview (but not her unfortunately). Is that it now for your dd? Good luck with making the right decision . Let us know how the reserve list works when you find out
