DS has his 'informal interview' for a place on the performing Arts BTEC in a couple of weeks. Fortunately I phoned to check what an 'informal interview' involved and it's an audition......whoops, could have been a disaster. Sounds like its group work and a monologue SO....... any ideas where to look for a suitable monologue lasting up to 3 minutes PLEASE.

Believe it or not, the audition is actually (for many colleges) a great way of filtering off people who won't fit in. What I mean is that many applicants will not have learnt it off by heart as in "Er, you mean I was supposed to learn it?" and others fall apart at the seams with the pressure of having to stand up on their own and 'perform'. Some bottle out and walk out! The colleges are not expecting Laurence Olivier standard, far from it - but what they expect are kids who will mix in with the others, and prove that they can actually learn a bit of script. even making a mistake, is rarely destructive. It gives them the chance to assess their personality too. So if your son or daughter has a show they really like, then picking something that lets them show off their characterisation skills is probably all they want. I'd advise against selecting something really heavy weight and impressive - especially if they're not really experienced. The nicest ones I ever heard were short ones from Victoria Wood - not too tricky to learn, but a little different.
If light hearted isn't the way to go -
http://www.nida.edu.au/ArticleDocuments ... 9.pdf.aspx is a good list of more 'heavyweight' ones for girls, with

Thanks for the links. He has decided to do something light hearted so is going to try Adrian Mole. He quickly learns scripts, loves doing group activities, improvisation etc....or anything really where he gets a chance to have an input , such as devising pieces to perform and is not fased by performing to strangers. I think he would make an excellent student...but then I'm a bit biased!
