It wil be for a student film, my kids seem to get viewed by these more than anything else! Can often be good experience if building up a CV, but rarely pay more than expenses x

Do their agents not find enough auditions? DD is only on KCCP because she does not have an agent. I am hoping that when she gets one, they will find the work for her. Thats my theory anyway. Am I off the mark somewhat?

Re agents finding jobs. Thats not a simple question to answer. Obviously the business is totaly over subscribed to start with, I think the amount of castings and work you get depends on lots of different and obvious, factors, the agent, location, experience, economic climate probably figures in there somewhere, your look and of course luck! etc. I don't think any one of us would answer this the same. My DS is a beginner has only a small agent who works tirelessly to get him to auditions, in the meantime it's seems to us like a good idea to keep as active as possible, doing what DS loves, to gain experience so he has confidence and something to talk about and as someone else on here said to "build up memories."

DS is under no illusions that acting will be a career for him but he is enjoying the fun of doing what he's doing right now.

hi Thalias_dad, agents are not magic carpets to fame and fortune I'm afraid, many people think the hard work is actually getting an agent then it's all plain sailing, unfortunatley as many will testify on this forum you can get an agent and never even get an audition! I have seen it time and again on here where people are overjoyed at getting accepted onto an agents books only to be posting a few months on that they haven't even had an audition yet. sometimes you get a flurry of activity in the first month, then nothing (it is not always because the agent is no longer trying on your behalf though). Then there are those who seem to be continuously at auditions and never manage to land the job. As frisbee says this business is oversubscribed. We are thankful that our dd has had lots of opportunities over the past 20 months and had a great time doing the varied acting roles, however most of them have been through me trawling (some from opportunities posted on this very site! :D ) and not through her agent. Having said that ,it is rear for someone to get to the big time without an agent, the 'big jobs' are usually quiet closed proceedures and only audition through agents. It really depends on what you want out of this. Our dd doesn't care if it's a block buster or a student film, if she's getting paid or not, she doesn't want fame and fortune, she just wants to act.
Even though our dd has so much experience actoss the board there are months when it is very quiet, dd did virtually nothing, for August, September and much of October - only 1 film, 2 auditions and a recall over the three months, there wasn't even much to apply for on sites like Star Now that suited her, now over the past month things have really picked up again and she has 8 auditions and landed 5 roles! It really is that unpredicatable!

Competition to get an audition has got much harder.

Apparently until recently there was only one Spotlight book of kids, now there are so many kids they have to have 3 books to fit them all in.....so more agents taking on more kids, but less work to go round.

Is that right, Tikka?! I'm shocked - I've seen the 2010-11 tome, and that's got 4 children per page and 1278 pages (so over 5000 children.) If they now have 3 books and they're all going to be as big, there's been an exponential rise in kids with agents - and at a time when the industry is contracting. No wonder we're all so quiet!

...but no wonder some agents are keen to charge "registration fees" :? - a much easier way to make money than earning commission.

Feeling guilty now for what I said earlier, this poor kid is on another thread all excited about getting an agent and we're all being all doom and gloom. If she reads this, I say, good luck sweet, hope all you dreams come true!

Instead of starting another thread thought to carry on here!

Ds has finally had contact through the kccp.com. I had seen it on there but thought nothing as it was up in north England ish and Wales and we are in east Sussex

I replied back stating this and saying we can get to London for audition. Was this the right reply!

Ds not had nothing since April so hope have not ruined his chances.

X

Hi Jackiewackie
It says the auditions are in Preston, if you can get to there, my dd has also been contacted about this film on KCCP, not sure whether she will go for it yet. :)
